Karate, Gym, June 14th, Wednesday Morning

"Good morning, everyone," Tommy greets his class. "Sorry for not holding class last week- there was an... incident, that I had to take care of."

"Today, we're going to be learning the Meerkat style," Tommy says, and raises an eyebrow. "Yes, Meerkat. Which is, according to some of you guys, the natural enemy of the Stickbugs."

"Although the techniques of the Meerkat style can be adapted for one-on-one sparring," Tommy says as he runs through a demonstration, "they work best when you're working in concert with one or more other people. On that note, I'd like you guys to pair up, if you can, and find another pair to spar with."

"Don't hesitate to ask me if you have any questions."

"Stickbug brother!" Peter greeted Tyler. "Think we can manage the form of the enemy?" He definitely had an air of what one could possibly call bounciness except that Peter didn't particularly bounce.

"English Stickbug!," Tyler said, pushing up onto his feet. "It'll be a challenge, but I think we're tough enough to manage it."

"We just have to remember that we're doing this form under protest," Peter said with a slight grin. "And not let the wily ways of the Meerkat distract us."

Tyler grinned. "I think we have to know this form," he said. "If only to be absolutely certain stickbug is superior."

He tilted his head. "Want to pair up and find another pair to spar with?"

"You make an excellent point," Peter replied with a huge grin. "Let's do that. And I'm trying to refrain from making comments about how appropriate it is that the Meerkat form should be worked in a group."

Tyler snickered. "The wily stickbug works alone. Meerkats need support."

"Exactly," Peter said, laughing. "Think we should run through this once on our own to make sure we have some idea what we're doing before finding another group?"

"Sounds like a good idea," Tyler concurred.

He bent to loosen his muscles then stood in the basic Meerkat defensive position. "Ready when you are."

Peter made a valid attempt to take the Meerkat form as seriously as all other forms of martial arts as he threw the first Meerkat punch towards Tyler.

Tyler used the standard meerkat blocking technique, deferring the punch, and then aimed a meerkat strike at Peter's midsection.

Peter used the second demonstrated Meerkat block to stop Tyler's strike and twisted into the Meerkat side kick.

The side kick hit Tyler's shin, and he spun away from it before aiming a Meerkat blow at Peter's upper arm.

Peter's recovery from the kick was less than graceful. He took the blow on his arm with a grin and tried the Meerkat elbow strike.

Tyler danced away from the elbow strike then resumed Meerkat rest stance as he considered his next move. "This is tiring," he said. "Weird."

[OOC: Heading home.]

"Maybe because we're supposed to be fighting with a partner?" Peter said thoughtfully.

"Maybe," Tyler said thoughtfully. "But some of those arm motions feel weird. Think I twisted my shoulder."

[OOC: Hate to do this, but can we handwave the paired practice? Or you can mod Tyler through it if you want.]

Peter looked at Tyler with concern. "Maybe you ought to go easy with it today. You don't want to hurt yourself more."

"Thanks," Tyler said gratefully. He went back to stretching on the mats.
