Let's Play Tourists!, first period

When students arrived at Portalocity, Jon had light jackets for them. (He was not channeling Anakin; they were all just basic blue windbreakers.) "I thought of asking you to dress warmly, but I didn't want to chance anybody getting heatstroke on the way here," he told them. "Since tomorrow is America's anniversary, it seems the tradition is to do something for it, but we are absolutely not doing anything in this heat."

Their portal opened and he led them through to a small but busy town that was a blessed 51F. "Seward, Alaska," he told them. "Still in the United States, and they've started celebrations already. There are a number of things you can do, including painting, dancing, art, and anime, or you can wander and enjoy the festival. Either way, enjoy yourselves and be back here in time."

Caleb had a lot of mixed feelings today. On the one hand look at where he was! It was absolutely gorgeous. On the other, he was starting to feel a bit guilty at the positive track his life was on. It was a bit survivor's guilt, a bit the nagging intrusive notion that none of this would be happening if his family were alive.

But then again, he'd recently realized that he'd turned 19 last month so he wanted to enjoy this even more than usual as a belated birthday treat.

Part of that would be splurging on local crafts.
