Archery Workshop #4, 6/13, Danger Shop, Afternoon

The setup should be starting to look kind of familiar to the students by now. Grass, sun, bows, arrows, targets. However, this week, the targets are somewhat smaller than they were the week before. Not absurdly small, just smaller.

Miho is sitting in a lounge chair under a shade umbrella, where she can watch all of her students, hopefully without getting shot. The sign-in sheet is on a card table next to her, along with a plate of doughnuts and a pitcher of somewhat sour lemonade with a stack of plastic cups.

On the portable blackboard is this message to the students: Shoot things. Not each other. Good luck! with a big smiley face drawn under it.

The ninja is in a disturbingly good mood, it would seem.

Sam glanced over at Dean after his first few shots, trying to figure out why he felt like something was off with his brother. After all the time they'd spent together, even a small change was enough to get his attention.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

Figured Sammy would notice something was up. Dean was actually a little relieved at that; family should be able to tell when you've bodyswapped.

He gave his brother a small smirk. "Guess that depends on how we're defining okay."

Sam finally realized it was Dean's hair that was different, and he was about to comment when he noticed the other change - the barcode tattoo that was distinctly Alec's.

"I would define okay as not being in a workshop you didn't sign up for, and not trading clothes with my brother," he replied, sighing. "What are you doing here?"

"We didn't exactly trade clothes," Dean clarified.

"Oh, so you stole them? Why does that not surprise me?"

Dean rolled his eyes. "Sammy, it's me."

The "Sammy" would have been enough, if it weren't for the fact that Alec had decided to latch onto that name too, to annoy him. "Nice try. I can see your tattoo, idiot."

"Then explain how I know that when you four, you wanted to dress up as a ballerina for Hallowe'en," Dean said, picking the first embarrassing fact that no one but he and Sam would know that he could think of. "We didn't trade clothes, we traded bodies."

"Oh my god," Sam said, his eyes wide. "Dean?! What the hell happened? Are you okay? And could you have possibly mentioned the ballerina thing any louder?" he added, sighing.

"I possibly could've yeah," Dean smirked, then got serious. "I"m okay. Just... not entirely human at the moment. Which isn't all that bad actually. I'm dealing better than Alec is anyway. It's a spell that didn't do what it's supposed to. Willow's working on trying to get a fix."

"So Alec's in your body?" Sam made a small disgusted noise. "You'd better make sure he doesn't do anything you'll have to pay for later." He looked at Dean curiously. "You were trying to do a spell?"

Dean snorted. "Yeah right. As if. I wasn't trying to do a spell. Willow was trying to do a spell. Granted one I asked her to try, but... This wasn't supposed to happen. And so far all Alec's done is complain about being human and slow and bruised. I'm trying not to take offense."

Sam rolled his eyes. "Oh, poor Alec. What was supposed to happen then?"

"It was supposed to be sorta like a panic button. So if Alec's former.. I wanna say employers but owners is probably closer to the truth. If Alec's former owners try to disappear him, I'll know he's in trouble." He smiled wryly. "Which, since I'm in his body now, I guess I would, but..."

"Dean, this really isn't funny. Why would you do something like that?" Sam was trying to wrap his brain around how a spell like that would work, and it wasn't exactly making him feel better.

"You remember that one of the effects of Rory's light reading last week was people having waking nightmares? Alec was one of them. I stopped by his room when he was hallucinating that he'd been taken back and.. it was bad, Sammy. He was hallucinating that they had psychics trying to rape his mind and that they were going to cut him into pieces. He doesn't admit it, but he's terrified that they're going to find him and drag him back to that. And without anyone even noticing he's gone." Dean shrugged a little self-consciously. "I don't want that to happen, figured making sure he couldn't just be made to vanish without anyone knowing anything until it was too late was a good place to start."

Sam fiddled idly with his bow, caught between his general state of trying not to care about Alec, and wanting to share any concerns that Dean had. He had to admit, mind rape and getting cut into bits were pretty disconcerting thoughts. But if that was the sort of threat that Alec was involved in, he wanted Dean to be less involved, not more. "Okay, that might be a good place to start. But why you? Why not go to the principal or one of the deans with this? Don't you think they're in a greater position to make sure Alec doesn't get taken? And then you wouldn't have to worry about getting hurt either."

"I don't know if he'd trust them. From what he's said -- and not said -- I think in his world, the authorities are more likely to hand him back over themselves that protect him. I don't think the administration here would do that, but that's the mindset Alec's working with. He doesn't trust authority. Hell, I don't even know if he trusts me. But at least I can get him to listen to me. Sometimes." Dean tried not to brood on that. He didn't know what exactly it was that lay between him and Alec, but he did know he couldn't sit by and watch him get taken.

He glanced at Sammy. "And it's enlightened self-interest too. What with us looking so much alike, who's to say that if they do come for him, they won't grab me by accident."

That thought is enough to send a twisting feeling through Sam's stomach. "In other words, you have the potential to get hurt whether you help Alec or not. Fantastic." Sam sighed. He had a feeling that Alec might trust Dean, but he didn't really know why. It would be smart of him, that was for sure. "You sure you're feeling okay? In Alec's body and all?"

"I feel fine," Dean assured him, grinning. "Better than fine in a weird way. Alec wasn't kidding about the genetic enhancements. It's kinda cool to be able to play with them. I've got telephoto vision for instance."

"Are you serious?" Sam felt himself grinning too. "Okay, that's pretty awesome. Now who's the one cheating at archery?" he teased.

Dean grinned. "Hey, if you got it... And that's not everything. I'm like really super fast. Forget the four minute mile, I could probably do it in one minute."

"I'm going to assume that Alec isn't enjoying losing these abilities nearly as much as you're enjoying getting them," Sam said, laughing.

"You'd be assuming right." Dean smirked. "It's non-stop complaining about how my body isn't good enough. And uttering the words 'I'm human' with horror."

"Oh yes, the horror!" Sam laughed even harder. "Teasing him would probably be mean, wouldn't it?"
