Fandom Library, Wednesday, March 18th

Oh it was definitely springtime. Books about flowers and gardens were all over the library today, angled to show off their illustrations to best advantage. There were several papercraft books out, too, creating lovely origami flowers to decorate the library with.

Sometimes they were a little overzealous and other books needed to be rescued from being folded into a bouquet of paper roses, but Arden managed to grab a bunch of paper from the printer instead.

Uh. Hope nobody was planning on printing anything today.

"Wish I could blame that on Fandom, but that seems t' be happenin' all over. At th' risk o' once again soundin' like an old timer, I could swear the weather used t' be more consistent 'in my day'."

He attempted to stick the flower in one of his button holes. He managed it a bit but didn't know how long it'd stay there.

"Ahh, haven't gotten to the climate change section of your reading catch up," Arden said. "Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if you were right. We've really done a number on the climate and the weather suffers for it."

"I have come across the phrase, but yeah I ain't looked it up yet. I tend t' get to certain topics and wonder 'do I really want t' know about this?' I keep thinkin' of the phrase 'three steps forward two steps back'."

And he didn't even know if the worst of it could truly be laid at the foot of inhuman powers.

Doubtful. Humanity had never needed monsters, they supplied plenty of their own.

"Like, the really summarized view is, 'pollution is bad for the planet and so is rampant capitalism'," Arden offered. Helpfully. "Rampant capitalism produces a lot of pollution while also devouring natural resources."

Caleb grimaced, he himself may not have experienced the horrors of the mining industry, but more than one of the orphans he grew up with had wound up that way because of it in one way or another.

"Yeah, we got kinda a...oh what's the word, I saw it just the other day. Microcosm? Of that in Appalachia. I guess...I guess I didn't realize it was gonna be a global thing. Which havin' said it out loud seems kinda naive. Or maybe I mean insular. Or both."

He made a mental note to try and add the concept of being kept ignorant of the world in a small rural community, to a story.

"Well, havin' gotten th' small talk outta th' way, I been meanin' to ask, I met Miss Illyana on th' trip, and she said your house is haunted?"

Arden laughed at the small talk comment, and then waggled a hand. "Oh not...exactly? It's not haunted like there are ghosts - at least I don't think there are ghosts? But it's alive."

You know. A living house. Very normal.

"It's some kinda special...entity? That is currently taking the form of a house that we live in."

"That is...not something I've ever heard of before." Not even in any of the weirder magazines or comic books he'd read. "But, given that I've been taught by somethin' that takes th' form of a bear sometimes I suppose that does sound possible."

Most of the entities he'd heard of that took the form of other things weren't so benevolent unfortunately.

"And...I know this is is a silly question, since y'all probably wouldn't be livin' there otherwise, but I feel compelled t' ask it anyhow for some reason, it's...nice? It ain't dangerous?"
