Book Fair

Giles had gotten up at ack o'clock and actually had toted five boxes of books to the Fandom High Gym before he "cheated."

Everything was now set up neatly on tables, and separated by genre.

There was also coffee and hot water urns, bottled water, and a variety of pastries and breads set on a table near the register.

The First Annual Fandom High Book Fair was open for business.

[ooc: Hang on to your collective hats while I get the OCD threads up, please.

Threads are UP. Whew. I think you all know how this works. Go look for a book. Up to you whether you find it or not. No, there is no magic/new age section. Yes, Giles has planned it that way.

That's it! Go to town! Wait. No. Stay here and buy stuff...]

"Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar," Jack said as he leaned over and saw what Cedric was looking at. "Or maybe, sometimes a magic wand is just a magic wand?"

Cedric turns and smiles before glaring at the book.

"This fellow Freud was...strange, to say the least. He seems to be very interested in magic wands."

Jack snickered. "At least he had good taste? But yeah, he was just a bit obsessed. Not everything has to do with sex. Why the sudden interest in long-dead wand-obsessed guys?"

"No reason really," he says, shelving the book. "I was just exploring and ended up over here. A lot of these subjects aren't really taught at Hogwarts."

"No sex-ed then, huh? Pity." Jack leaned against the table. "What else do you learn over there, apart from floating, broomstick flying - which you still have to show me - and defending yourself against bad wizards?"

"I'm planning the flying outing already," he says. "Besides that, we learn potions, astronomy, charms, history of magic, transfiguration, ruines, diviniation, care of magical creatures, arthimancy, and herbology."

"It's complicated being a wizard," Jack replied, surprised. "In the fairy tales, it always seems like something that just happens."

"It is," Cedric agrees. "And those thoughts are common misconceptions. A lot of people think magic is easily wielded and controlled. In the wrong hands, it's a powerful weapon but even those wizards have trained for many years."

Jack nodded, studying Cedric thoughtfully. "Do you want to be a wizard? I mean, it's based on talent, right? I couldn't become a wizard, because I've got no talent." He grinned. "Not at magic, anyway. But you've got the talent. Does that mean you have to become a wiazrd?"

"You've got plenty of talent," Cedric says immediately. "Maybe not at magic but you're talented. As for me, I do want to be a wizard. Magic is...amazing. I'm supposed to be modest or humble but it's amazing and thrilling and constantly changing. I want to do that all my life, if possible."

"It is amazing, and thrilling, and I'm just happy you're willing to share it with me. I've never seen anything like it." Jack smiled at him warmly. "And considering the sorts of thing you can do, I think you're very modest."

[identity profile] chasingsnitches.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
"I enjoy sharing it with you," he says. "I came over here under the impression that anything like this would frighten. I was wrong and I'm so very glad I was."

"It could be scary. I can see how someone might be frightened by it." Jack shrugged. "I think it's exciting and besides-" He stopped and was silent for a moment. "It's hard to be scared of someone you trust."

[identity profile] chasingsnitches.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
"I trust you too," Cedric says after a moment. "You know more about me then some of my friends at Hogwarts do. I trust you because you are trustworthy and you earned it."

Re: Non-Fiction--Philosophy and Psychology

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
"That works out well then. Thank you." Jack beamed at him. "I'm not sure how I earned it, but I'll do my best not to let you down."

Re: Non-Fiction--Philosophy and Psychology

[identity profile] chasingsnitches.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
"You've listened," Cedric says. "Simple as that. You've listened and you've made me had fun and you've been there when I felt sorry for myself."

Re: Non-Fiction--Philosophy and Psychology

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Grinning, Jack replied, "You're easy to listen to, no matter what you're talking about, and the fun goes both ways." Stepping forward, he kissed Cedric. "I wonder what Freud would make of that?"

"Something odd," Cedric says, shaking his head. "He wouldn't understand. Now, he was dull."

And he kisses Jack in return.

Jack didn't even nod, just concentrated on carefully kissing Cedric, resting one hand lightly on his hip.

"All these old me surrounding us...in the literary sense," Cedric mumbles. "Do you think they're analyzing us?"

Re: Non-Fiction--Philosophy and Psychology

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Jack lifted his head and laughed, his hand still on Cedric's hip. "They're probably to busy being jealous to analyse us."

Re: Non-Fiction--Philosophy and Psychology

[identity profile] chasingsnitches.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
"You think so?" He looks around at the books and then back to Jack. "They were never kissed in their lives before? Maybe that's the root of their need to analyze others?"

Re: Non-Fiction--Philosophy and Psychology

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
"I know they weren't kissed by me," Jack said, not even trying to sound modest. "And I'm pretty sure they weren't kissed by you. So, kissed or not, I think they've got good reason to be jealous."

Re: Non-Fiction--Philosophy and Psychology

[identity profile] chasingsnitches.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
"I've never kissed any of these men," Cedric says but, just to tease, peers at the books and the names just to make sure.

Jack mock-growled and snagged Cedric's chin, gently, but holding tight, and pulled Cedric back to face him. "I should hope not. I'm certainly not sharing you with a bunch of creepy old men."
