Book Fair

Giles had gotten up at ack o'clock and actually had toted five boxes of books to the Fandom High Gym before he "cheated."

Everything was now set up neatly on tables, and separated by genre.

There was also coffee and hot water urns, bottled water, and a variety of pastries and breads set on a table near the register.

The First Annual Fandom High Book Fair was open for business.

[ooc: Hang on to your collective hats while I get the OCD threads up, please.

Threads are UP. Whew. I think you all know how this works. Go look for a book. Up to you whether you find it or not. No, there is no magic/new age section. Yes, Giles has planned it that way.

That's it! Go to town! Wait. No. Stay here and buy stuff...]

"There are enough Brits here that I think it won't matter." Walter said. "And I noticed recently that almost all of my closest friends here are foreign, either from other countries, or even other planets. I rather wonder if we might outnumber the Yanks anyway."

"True," Peter said, counting up the number of non-Americans he knew in his head. "But it's still their country and all. People can get a bit territorial."

Given he and Peter had left an England at war, Walter could understand that. "I have a feeling we'll be alright as long as we don't try to redeclare it a British colony."

"In that European, bastard-like way," said Seras, waving as she walked up to the two boys.

She was carrying a couple Louis L'Amour novellas, two new books on alchemy, and two more on guns and fire arms.

Gosling!Pip sat on her head. His yellowy fuzz rather matched her blonde hair, and all of him that really stood out were his eye-patch and his beak.

"Hello Seras," Walter greeted. "And Pip. Still a goose, I see."

Pip gave a honk that might have been either a hello or a disparaging remark about Walter's keen observational skills.

Walter smirked at the gosling mercenary before tilting his head to have a look at the books Seras had in hand. "Interesting selection. I'm interested in learning more about guns, too."

"Are you really?" asked Seras, a bit surprised, "I mean, I'd have thought, with your wires and all, you wouldn't care too much about fire arms."

She passed him over the books -- one about effective combat strategy with small arms and the other about assembling and disassembling automatic pistols -- since he seemed interested in them.

Walter shrugged and flipped open the book. "Not for me, really, but I work with people who use guns, I have friends who use guns. It seems like a useful thing to know."

Re: Refreshments

[identity profile] union-jane.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Seras nodded.

"So, what do you want to learn about guns then, if not how to use them?"

Re: Refreshments

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
"How to repair them or improve them, I suppose. Something to help the people I care for; something to give them every possible advantage in a fight."

Re: Refreshments

[identity profile] union-jane.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Seras nodded.

"Oh, speaking of that, you said you'd spar with me a bit, one day. Show me some things. Not chickening out, are you?"

Re: Refreshments

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Peter grinned. "Hello Seras. And an animal that's neither kitten nor frog. How goes it?"

Re: Refreshments

[identity profile] union-jane.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Seras smiled back.

"Peter, this is Pip Bernadette," she said, pointing to her fuzzy, little passenger, "You may have met him already. He's usually a good six feet taller and not sporting webbed feet. Pip, this is Peter Pevensie."

Pip honked a greeting.

Re: Refreshments

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Pip,?" Peter said, surprised. He tilted his head. "Greetings to you, Pip." He looked back at Seras. "Like Bridge? Will he turn back into human-Pip then?"

Re: Refreshments

[identity profile] union-jane.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
"We're hoping so," said Seras, "Because we've really got no idea how he turned into a gosling, and no idea how to go about changing him back."

Re: Refreshments

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Peter looked at Pip. "I hope you change soon, Pip. I'd miss you in karate workshop."

"Have you talked to any of the magic workers around here?" Peter asked. "Maybe they can find something about a spell?"

Re: Refreshments

[identity profile] union-jane.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Seras shook her head.

"No, I haven't. I haven't been her long enough to know who's a magic worker..."

She trailed off and felt a little stab of guilt. They really hadn't done much for Pip apart from cart him around and give him Finnish beer, had they?

"Who do you think could help?" she asked.

Re: Refreshments

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
"I heard the library has a good supply of magic books and such to start," Peter said. "Then there's Miss Calendar who teaches magic. She might have some ideas to start with."

Re: Refreshments

[identity profile] union-jane.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Seras nodded.

"Thank you, Peter," she said, "I really do appreciate it."

Pip gave an echoing peep of thanks.

"Have you found any books?" she asked.

Re: Refreshments

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Peter mock-sighed. "And I was so hoping to over the weekend."

Re: Refreshments

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Walter grinned and appeared to ponder. "My schedule is rather busy this weekend. Perhaps next?"

Re: Refreshments

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmm, or perhaps if we're going to do it that late in June, we ought just wait for their Independence Day," Peter said, still straight-faced. "I rather like the poetry in that."

Re: Refreshments

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Walter nodded. "There's a certain symmetry to that."

Re: Refreshments

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Isn't there though?" Peter grinned. "We'd need proclamations, Union Jacks, perhaps some redcoats just for the visual."
