Book Fair

Giles had gotten up at ack o'clock and actually had toted five boxes of books to the Fandom High Gym before he "cheated."

Everything was now set up neatly on tables, and separated by genre.

There was also coffee and hot water urns, bottled water, and a variety of pastries and breads set on a table near the register.

The First Annual Fandom High Book Fair was open for business.

[ooc: Hang on to your collective hats while I get the OCD threads up, please.

Threads are UP. Whew. I think you all know how this works. Go look for a book. Up to you whether you find it or not. No, there is no magic/new age section. Yes, Giles has planned it that way.

That's it! Go to town! Wait. No. Stay here and buy stuff...]

Elizabeth giggled, and glanced across at the shelves. "How about this one (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0099219425/026-2132093-7583655)?" she asked. "This is up to 1997. I think you'll find that there's not quite as many general history books around for more recent times, so you'll be better off finding something you're interested in and then looking for a book on that subject." She grinned. "It's um, yeah. Probably more textbooky than what most people look for."

Peter looked at the book she offered and laughed. Picking it up, he flipped through it. "This looks too funny. I'll have to read it." He nodded at her suggestion. "Yes, I think I'll do that. Or perhaps I'll just keep reading the history I'm familiar with from a different perspective," he said with a gesture at the books he'd been flipping through. "Perhaps a bit, but if it's what you're interested in."

"There's plenty of different perspectives around, yes," Elizabeth nodded. "Or there's other countries and such. One thing I'm sure we'll never be short of is history!" She grinned. "It is. I'll enjoy it."

"That's all that matters then," Peter replied with a grin. "Did you enjoy the workshop yesterday?"

"I did, yes. I've not been traumatized by being outside with it, despite rains of pudding, so that's good," she said, winking.

"Yes, because trauma caused by custard falling from the sky could be very difficult to explain to one's family," Peter replied, laughing.

Elizabeth laughed. "I think they'd send me to see a psychatrist straight away!" she said, conveniently ignoring the fact that talking to Kate Heightmyer counted as seeing a psychatrist already.

"And that would be a problem, because it's not like he would believe you either!" Peter said.

Elizabeth nodded, grinning. "Exactly. Unless he - or she - had experienced Fandom themselves, I guess."

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Too true," Peter said, thinking of one who was at Fandom as well. "I suppose we simply have to be thankful that neither has the custard traumatized anyone nor have the kittens or frogs attacked."

Elizabeth narrowed her eyes slightly at him, although she was still smiling. "Now, don't say things like that, else we'll find out that they're secretly ammassing an army..."

Peter laughed. "See, I think if they were, my saying so would not change a thing. And if they aren't there shall still be detention tomorrow."

Re: Non-Fiction--History

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Elizabeth snickered. "Sadly, too true," she said. She looked at him curiously. "How did you end up with detention?"

Peter pretended to be downcast. "Something about a disappearing cabin and other odd pranks."

Elizabeth shook her head, grinning. "You deserved it then.2

"Yes, probably," he replied with a wink. "But as an amusing exercise for the entire camp, it certainly worked."

Re: Non-Fiction--History

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Elizabeth snickered. "It did, yes," she admitted. "Do you know who you'll be serving detention with?"

"Our purpose was served then," Peter replied with a half-bow. "Too bad the Principal didn't agree. I almost had her convinced. Several of the other Stickbugs have it with me - Cam, Jamie, Tyler - and close to twenty other people according to the announcements.

"I admit I zoned out during the list this morning," Elizabeth said, grinning. "I didn't hear my name so that's pretty much all I needed to know!"

Re: Non-Fiction--History

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
"They were awfully early, weren't they," Peter said. "It's rather as if the Principal thought we might possibly still be sleeping. Not that she'd ever want to wake us up, I'm sure." Peter grinned.

Re: Non-Fiction--History

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
"All the announcements tend to be early. Which isn't nice," Elizabeth said. "I was in the shower for about half of them last semester!"

Re: Non-Fiction--History

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, you can't be responsible for announcements you don't hear, right?" Peter replied with a grin.

Re: Non-Fiction--History

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
"No, but it does mean that I'm surprised when something out of the ordinary happens which has been foretold in the morning announcements," Elizabeth explained, smiling.

Re: Non-Fiction--History

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
"But the surprise is half the fun!" Peter said, still grinning.

"Not when it's the laundry machines holding your clothes hostage!" Elizabeth pointed out, laughing. "I ended up in a summer dress from last year. And I've grown a few inches since then, so, hmm, yeah." She made a motion with her free hand, indicating just how short her skirt had been.
