"Spring break's coming up," Isabela announced to the class, in the tone of someone who had been on a great many of them. "Which is proving inspiring."

"So it's a thing in many places to make kids write essays about what they did on their school vacations," Aphra said. "We're going to flip that around and make you write a story about what you're going to do on yours."

"Remember the name of the class," Isabela said. "No reasonable expectations needed."

Here's what I'm going to do on my vacation.

The concept of a vacation was almost more alien to Caleb than that of space/time travel. Vacation, leisure travel, that was for rich folks. But then, he would have said that going to university belonged in the same category and here he was.

So he wrote about hopping a train to California and spending a week in Santa Monica. And then being romanced by a Hollywood starlet because why not.
