"Hello." Jon sighed. "I will freely admit this is another instance of 'the moose decides Mr. Sims needs to teach something ridiculous'. At least it's not tea again. I suppose I'll be getting together focusing techniques and such in the future, but conveniently, the first day is generally for introductions, and since we're the first class, you can't even have gotten sick of them yet."

He gestured. "So, just in case you don't know each other, let's do introductions. I am Jonathan Sims, he/him. I am from England in the present day. I've been teaching here for a few years, and generally enjoying it despite the moose's best attempts. Now you." He gestured at the first student.

"Hello, Henry." Jon nodded. "These days people may introduce themselves with pronouns because not everybody uses the ones you might expect, and saying which ones you prefer keeps others from having to ask," he explained.

"And that makes two of us," he said with a grimace. "I've no idea why I'm here, either. Perhaps we could gang up on the moose and ask."

That was probably a bad idea. That had never stopped Jon before.

"Right, the moose," Henry said, nodding. "... Y'think he's really a moose or he's just a man pretending to be one?"

"If he's a man pretending, he's quite committed to the act and his costume is impeccable," Jon answered.

"...I'm pretty sure he's real," he said, just to be totally clear.

"I don't know why I still find that odd," Henry admitted. A pause. "... Odder than a man just bein' very dedicated to pretending to be a moose."

Yeah, he belonged in this class.

"I'm honestly not sure which would be odder," Jon admitted. "Although I suppose it wouldn't be far off from being a...a furry, perhaps."

He wasn't exactly sure how furries worked, but he didn't think they went around actually pretending to be giant non-anthropomorphic moose.

"Er...no." Jon thought of how to explain. He hesitated. "Honestly, you're probably best looking that up online if you're curious."

Definitely do not look it up online, Henry.

He'd been here for seven months and he'd been barely literate when he arrived. "Er," Henry said. "What's online?"

"Er." Jon blinked. "I assumed you had a phone. Most people get one first thing. If you need help, I'll do my best."

Jon, he was a medieval peasant, come now.

"Phones! I've seen those," Henry agreed. "They're very bright and the letters are very small, though, aren't they?"

"Generally, but you can adjust both of those," Jon said. "They're very useful to have in this time."

The one phone he'd looked at for any long period of time made his head hurt and was nearly impossible for him to decipher, but he'd been told!

Jon wasn't going to make him have one! Some people didn't. Although admittedly, most of them were luddites rather than from far in the past. At least Henry had a reason.
