Baking Workshop 6/5, Monday Morning

Piper pointed out today's samples as the students arrived. "We're gonna try some foreign cuisine today. You'll be making crepes, which are French. When you finish making them, feel free to add any filling you want to."

She glanced at the various choices sitting on the counter. "We've got strawberries, bananas, chocolate sauce, various jams, etc. You can even add more than one if you feel like it."

"I'll be around, as usual, if you have questions," Piper added, handing each student a list of instructions.

Equipment Needed

Mixing Bowl

Measuring Cups

Measuring Spoons

Frying Pan

Spatula

Ingredients

1 cup flour

1/2 cup milk

1/2 cup water

2 eggs

2 tbsp melted butter

2 teaspoons sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and the eggs.

Gradually add in the milk and water, stirring to combine.

Add the sugar, vanilla and butter; beat until smooth.

Heat a lightly oiled frying pan over medium high heat.

Pour the batter into the pan, using approximately 1/4 cup for each crepe.

Tilt the pan with a circular motion so that the batter coats the surface evenly.

Cook the crepe for about 2 minutes, until the bottom is light brown.

Loosen with a spatula, turn and cook the other side.

Add whatever filling you want and then roll them up.

He flushed a little bit at the mention of baseball, but shook his head. "Grissom gave me a whole bunch of Nationals tickets go figure but I haven't had a chance to use any of them yet. I should see if any of 'em are for that weekend or something."

"It's a lot of fun," Sam said enthusiastically. "I get bored watching on television, but there's so much more to experience at a live game that it's easier to pay attention. Sitting out in the sun with a friend, or a significant other, and watching the game with a hot dog and a soda? Doesn't get much better than that."

"Oh, I love watching on TV, but everybody tells me it's way better live and my player is going to a game tomorrow, whee. Cally's not so into the game, but she says she'll go, as long as I buy her a hot dog." Anders put the Palm Pilot away and started stacking up clean utensils. "I think this frying pan is a total loss."

Sam looked over at the charred frying pan. "Yeah. I'd say so."

The frying pan got tossed into the trash can with a sad lack of ceremony, though Anders did wince a little bit when it thunked against the bottom of the can. "I'm so ready to call it a day in the kitchen. How 'bout you?"

"I may be ready to call it a month in the kitchen, but yeah." She wiped down the counters.

"If I wasn't so addicted to baked goods, I'd call it a lifetime in the kitchen," Anders said mournfully. "But no, I have to have my cupcakes, and I can't afford to buy 'em forever." He stowed all the clean gear back where it was supposed to be, picked up his now-empty fire extinguisher, and glanced at the doors.

"Same time next week, with sandbags. But hopefully I'll see you before then, huh?"

"Sounds good. Tell Cally I said hi."
