Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, Saturday, All Day

So, it wasn't Fall yet by a long shot. The temperatures were still high, the leaves were still green, and the calendar still said August. But the calendar of consumerism didn't care about reality and thus, the welcome picnic was decorated for fall. The tables were covered in reds, oranges, and yellows, there was apple cider in the punch bowls and, of course, if the food on the table could come in pumpkin spice form, it was here in pumpkin spice form.

"Uh, present?" Riri said like she wasn't sure where this was going, but hopefully it wasn't an immediately expulsion because of, you know, all the minor bits of academic dishonesty in selling projects before.

"Hi. I'm Jaina, I'm apparently your mentor," she said.

"Are you the one to ask about what classes I'm apparently signed up for?" Riri asked. "And not... a moose?"

Look, she'd settled on Anakin messing with her. It was the sane choice.

"Yes. Please don't ask the moose, the moose is a lot," Jaina told her. "You have questions?"

"...the moose is real?" Jaina, no. No!

"The moose is real," Jaina confirmed. "Pretty much all of the crazy stuff people are going to tell you is the truth. It's an adjustment."

"...seriously?" Why can't you do normal stuff like a basic alien invasion wiping out half the population?

"Did you know anything about this place before?" Jaina checked.

"Not at all." So, that's what you're working with here. "I was trying to get home to Chicago when I sort of ended up at the bus stop?"

"Oh. Well. Welcome to Fandom, it's a multiversal hub of different worlds and times and universes, and also you go to school here," she said. "Also it's in Maryland."

So, not really close to Chicago.
