Luau, The Main Campfire, Friday evening

The main campfire had been turned into a tropical paradise... without the tropics. There were leis and grass skirts to wear, tropical music playing, a buffet table, and the infamous Limbo Stick of Destiny, an artifact brought back to America from World War II. Noody knows what happens when a person wins a limbo competition involving the Limbo Stick of Destiny, but several experts on the subject suggest that "absolutely nothing happens except maybe you win a little trophy."

It was party time at the Fandom High Summer Camp.

[OOC: OCD is up. Yes, there is pig, poi, and sometimes the band will switch from generic tropical music to 60's beach movie music, or maybe reggae, or Raffi. They're unpredictable like that.

The luau takes place during a long break in the rain that fh_weather is reporting. Yes, I'm modding the weather. Admin privilege.]

"Aeryn." John frowns again. "That sounds final. What's wrong?"

"Nothing's final," she assures him. "You just know when something changed and you don't know how to fix it?"

"Yes," he says, a little concerned now. "What's going on, honey?"

"The little not-conversation with Cameron," she explains.

"Okay." That's more than he'd gotten before. "What happened?"

"Nothing," she says. "We just have nothing to say to each other anymore, I think." She shrugs a little. "Conflict I can handle. Stab me in the back, report my to my superiors for something I said in secrecy, that I can handle. This is just... throwing me off."

"Oh, honey." John reaches for her and drags her into a hug. "Maybe it's just a bad spot?"

"It's all right," she insists, but doesn't mind the hug, actually. "I've been through worse."

"Want me to talk to him?"

She shakes her head. "It's my thing to deal with, and... sometimes people move apart," she says. "...Though if you do, remind him that for all his promises of doing better at this, I can still complain."

"I know, honey." He leans down and kisses her lightly. "We won't move apart, you know?"

"I know," she says, smiling up at him. "If we haven't yet, we're not going to."

She tightens her arm around him a little. "This is good."

"I could do this all night," he says, bringing her closer.

She touches her forehead to his shoulder. "Okay."

He doesn't talk anymore. Instead, he brings his hand up to the back of her neck and massages the muscles there slowly.

"We're really in public, aren't we?" she half-mumbles, but she's not moving at all.

"We are," he says quietly, still rubbing her neck. "It's okay."

"Do you want me to stop?" he asks before dropping a kiss against her ear.

She slides her hand higher up on his back. "No."

"I won't," he says, letting his fingers wander into her hair and kneading her scalp gently.
