Luau, The Main Campfire, Friday evening

The main campfire had been turned into a tropical paradise... without the tropics. There were leis and grass skirts to wear, tropical music playing, a buffet table, and the infamous Limbo Stick of Destiny, an artifact brought back to America from World War II. Noody knows what happens when a person wins a limbo competition involving the Limbo Stick of Destiny, but several experts on the subject suggest that "absolutely nothing happens except maybe you win a little trophy."

It was party time at the Fandom High Summer Camp.

[OOC: OCD is up. Yes, there is pig, poi, and sometimes the band will switch from generic tropical music to 60's beach movie music, or maybe reggae, or Raffi. They're unpredictable like that.

The luau takes place during a long break in the rain that [livejournal.com profile] fh_weather is reporting. Yes, I'm modding the weather. Admin privilege.]

"Temperance." Jack rolled his tongue as he repeated her name. "Temperrrance. I like that, like the way it sounds." Holding up a hand reassuringly, he said, "And I promise, I'll take the secret to my grave."

He settled himself more comfortably. "I'm both old student and new, to provide a really confusing answer to your question."

Tempe had never liked her name, but when Jack said it, it just sounded nice. She grinned.

"Well, you'd be the first one to say that. And I appreciate you keeping a secret. Though, I'm sure people will find out some way or another anyway."

"Both old and new?" Tempe's eyebrow rose. "I sense a good story in that one. I'd love to hear it, if you don't mind sharing."

She settled herself more comfortably as well, legs stretched out in front of her.

"I don't know if it's a good story. By this place's standards it's not even really an odd one." Jack smiled at her as she stretched out. "I was a student, disappeared for about 6 weeks, came back, and I didn't remember ever being a student here." He shrugged. "So, both new and old."

"Any idea where you disappeared to?" Tempe asked, curious. "And do you think it was amnesia? Or maybe it's a different version of you here now."

She blushed. "Sorry. I know this probably isn't any of my business. I'm just fascinated." With you, Tempe thought, but didn't say.

"Nope, not a clue. It's a kind of amnesia, I guess." He grinned at the blush. "And it doesn't worry me in the least. Ask away. I couldn't possibly deny you anything."

A shy smile. "Are you from Earth?" Granted, it wasn't a question she usually asked people, but it seemed like a valid question.

And, because she was always looking for someone to commiserate with, she asked "And did you travel through time at all?"

She unconsciously wiggled her toes.

"Nope, not from earth, but the place I come from's so similar it doesn't really make a difference." He smiled at her. "And yeah, travelled a bit of a ways thourgh time. You sound like you might have some experience with that."

Tempe grinned. "Oh yeah, some. Though not as much as some other people at this school. With me, it's only been 12 years. But a lot of stuff is so different now, it seems like longer."

"I think twelve years would be a lot harder than how far I travelled. Everything here is probably similar enough to what you're used to to throw you." He shrugged. "With me, it's completely different, so there's nothing that really bothers me. Plus, I'm pretty flexible."

"It's definitely different," Tempe replied. "And that's just from what I've seen so far. I have a feeling a lot more has changed than I realize."

She stared at her drink and then looked up at Jack. "Just how far did you travel?"
