Luau, The Main Campfire, Friday evening

The main campfire had been turned into a tropical paradise... without the tropics. There were leis and grass skirts to wear, tropical music playing, a buffet table, and the infamous Limbo Stick of Destiny, an artifact brought back to America from World War II. Noody knows what happens when a person wins a limbo competition involving the Limbo Stick of Destiny, but several experts on the subject suggest that "absolutely nothing happens except maybe you win a little trophy."

It was party time at the Fandom High Summer Camp.

[OOC: OCD is up. Yes, there is pig, poi, and sometimes the band will switch from generic tropical music to 60's beach movie music, or maybe reggae, or Raffi. They're unpredictable like that.

The luau takes place during a long break in the rain that [livejournal.com profile] fh_weather is reporting. Yes, I'm modding the weather. Admin privilege.]

Paige laughed, "hey in this place I'd totally believe it, there was a sentient crayon marking people here a while ago, so setient bucket wouldn't be that wierd."

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] fatalvoyage.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"A sentient crayon? Really?" Tempe asked. "Man, I missed all the fun stufff, apparently. I wish I could've been here last term."

And because she couldn't contain her curiosity, "What color was the crayon?"

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well that was one of the safer stuff that's happened here, trust me it was all like that," she said before trying to remember the colour, "red I think, why?"

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] fatalvoyage.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, one thing's for sure. We never had stuff like that happen at my old school," Tempe replied. "Mind you, we also didn't have time-travelling people there either."

"So I'd know which one to avoid if I saw a box of Crayolas lying around," Tempe said, winking.

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah I don't think many people have been to a school like this before," she said with a grin, "I mean I'm from a world with magic and my high school was totally normal."

She smirked at the Tempe's crayon explaination, "ah but see if they're setient they're probably clever enough to know you'll be cautious of the red, avoid the green ones, that's my advice!"

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] fatalvoyage.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think most of us have the same feeling. Compared to this, just about anywhere else would seem normal," Tempe replied.

"Damn," Tempe said. "You're probably right. And with my luck, I'd come across the only color-shifting sentient crayon in history. Maybe it'll be blue. Maybe it'll be green. One can never know." She said the last part with a bit of an ominous, movie-trailer sounding narrative.

Paige laughed, "I'm so glad I'm not taking arts and crafts! So..." she trailed off trying to work out how to ask her next question.

"So I'm a witch, how about you?" she settled on.

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] fatalvoyage.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Tempe's eyebrows barely raised at Paige's declaration.

"Anthropologist. Er, and not a witch. Or an alien, or anything else remotely fascinating."

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Anthropology's pretty interesting, plus in this place being a witch isn't all that special." she assures her

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] fatalvoyage.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"I agree," Tempe said. "And I think I'd like a job doing it when I graduate."

"Are you the only witch here? Or are there others?"

Tempe, being interested in people, was fascinated.

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Paige nodded, "less than there used to be, but my sister's are witches and I dated a wizard for a while, so yeah quite a few, like I said it's not such a big deal here, I mean back home no one's allowed to know, which is why I like being so much, despite everything." she explained.

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] fatalvoyage.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Tempe nodded. "It must have been hard to have to keep it a secret," she replied. "But I bet it was for the best. People can be awfully cruel to others who are different." She knew that from experience.

"I have to say I like it here, as well," Tempe said. "It's not everywhere that you can get attacked by glitter and actually have people be sympathetic.

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well I didn't actually know I was witch until I got her, I though I was just a freak that could do stuff with her mind you know? But you're right everyone here's pretty supportive e have to be really with the wierd stuff that happens." she replied.

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] fatalvoyage.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"I hope this will all help us later in life," Tempe replied. "Maybe being at such a diverse school at this could help people teach understanding. Maybe broker a peace treaty between two warring factions. End a gnome war. Things like that."

Tempe smiled. "And just so you know, you'd never be a freak to me. I live for people's differences."

"And on that note, you have a really pretty smile." Tempe really had no idea why that had come out. She'd meant to say something anthropologically poignant. Instead, she'd made things awkward. Earth, come and swallow up Tempe, please.

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thanks," she said in reply to the freak thing, "but you should probably wait til you've seen me orb before the decide on that, I know I look pretty normal, but the whole pretty blue lights thing might change your mind.

Then she said the part about her smile, it's entirely possible Paige thought Tempe was hitting at this point, not thatb she'd necessarily mind if she was.

"I- thanks that's nice of you to say," she said after a moment or two, "I like your hair colour, is it natural?"

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] fatalvoyage.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Orb?" Tempe asked, curious. "Nah, I'm still pretty sure I'd see you as normal. Just normal with pretty blue lights."

It's entirely possible that Tempe was hitting on her. Maybe it was the tropical fruity juice she was drinking. Maybe it was just the way the light from the fire hit Paige's eyes.

"Yeah, it is. Auburn hair since birth."

She looked at Paige again. Sudden brain malfunction. Neutral ground. Think neutral ground. Neutral, not Paige's eyes.

"Uh, can I get you some tropical fruit juice?"

Did Sawyer made some weird wish?

She smiled before explaining "sorry it's kinda like teleporting, I'll show you some time if you want, it's pretty handy if you're not the punctual type."

"It's nice, I can change my hair colour at will, so I guess I notice these things, and um yeah juice would be nice thanks. It's not been spiked yet has it?" she asked, although in fairness if it was spiked she couldn't be held responsible could she?

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] fatalvoyage.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'd love to see it, if you're willing to show me."

"I'll be right back," Tempe said, before going off to get some juice for Paige. She handed the cup to her, complete with straw and cute little umbrella. "I don't think it's been spiked yet."

Though she might actually be planning to do so now. But that might just make things worse.

[OOC: Heh. Sawyer's flames old and new. Fun for us, not so much for him. Are you okay with the flirting? I can tone it down if you like. ;)]

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've been told it feels a little wierd, but if you wanted I could orb you somewhere with me," she said happily.

She took the drink grinning at the little umbrella and took a sip, "yeah no alcohol in this baby," she said, possibly a little sadly, not drinking sucked.

"So how are you liking living in the cabins, you've not been pranked yet have you?" she asked.

((no it's totally fine! My girl's not been hit on in ages, she's enjoying it!))

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] fatalvoyage.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"That would be really cool," Tempe replied, grinning.

Tempe watched Paige drink, her eyes focused on Paige's lips. "You sound disappointed," she said. "I could track down some vodka, if you'd like." She grinned.

"Living in the cabins is okay, though I really wouldn't mind moving back into the dorms at some point," Tempe replied. "No, I haven't been pranked, thank goodness. I'm not in Stickbug or Meerkat, and it seems like those are the two cabins involved in the majority of the pranking."

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Paige shakes her head, in a slightly forced way, "I'm not meant to drink, there was some...badness, both here and at my old school, but um.." she bites her lip, "you'd not let me get drunk right? And it's not like I'm upset, which was kinda the problem before." she admitted.

She grinned at the mention of the Stickbugs being pranked, "yeah the Stickbugs have had it pretty tough haven't they?" she said in a mock regretful tone, "which reminds me I have dentension tomorrow," she finished with a sigh.

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] fatalvoyage.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"I was only kidding," Tempe replied, and then said more softly, "Of course I wouldn't let you get drunk. What kind of friend would I be if I did that?" That was assuming that they were friends, which Tempe hoped they were.

"Are you a Meerkat?" Tempe asked. "Or do you just know some Stickbugs and have some ill feelings towards them? Not that it matters, either way."

"Detention? Should I ask how you landed in there? Or was it random punishment?"

She paused, and then took the plunge. "Are you doing anything after your detention tomorrow?"

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"A fun one?" Paige suggested grinning. Yes definitely friends, cos Paige had been away a while, and was making the effort to actually make friends now.

She shook her head to the second question, "I, am a noble squirrel," she replied striking a 'noble' pose, "but no I have no problem with the Stickbugs, I'm not even sure who's in that cabin actually."

"Did you hear about the disappearing underwear?" she asked lowering her voice and leaning in slightly, "it had something to do with that, and the principal's office."

"I'm free after yeah, pretty much free all the time actually, do you want to do something?" she asked more than willing to do whatever she suggested.

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] fatalvoyage.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Fun, maybe, but completely irresponsible," Tempe replied, grinning. "I like to protect my friends from the bad stuff." Not that she'd had that many friends up to now...

"A noble squirrel! My favorite!" Tempe replied, laughing. "I'm just a lowly Pangolin. Which I'm not even sure what kind of animal that is."

"I think I heard something about that on the radio," Tempe said, lowering her tone to match Paige's. "Did you steal underwear? Or have it stolen?"

"Would you like to go out for coffee or something?" Tempe asked, hopefully, shuffling from foot to foot nervously.

Re: Dance Area

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course Paige couldn't be protected from the bad stuff, the protecting was her job, or it would be when she left here, the sentiment was apprecaited though and she smiled back at Tempe.

"Are you sure Pangolin even is an animal, I think maybe they ran out and just made something up." she said.

"And um, well since we're being honest, I helped steal it," she said lowering her voice again since so far the squirrels hadn't been sprung yet.

"But sure coffee sounds good, pretty much always, I think detention gets out at 5, I could meet you in the perk?" she suggested taking another sip of the drink and feeling glad she'd approached the girl, she was sweet and friendly and not freaking out about her being a witch bespite her being from somewhere without magic.
