Summer Shenanigans- Wednesday mid-morning

No Anakin today, which might make some people breathe a sigh of relief. Except instead you got his fairly similar granddaughter so you have fun with that.

Especially when there seemed to be a small obstacle course set up in the park, so.

"Welcome!" Jaina began, through a megaphone because if he got to use one, she wanted one too. "We're going to do a little obstacle course today. Nothing to be afraid of."

She read out this week's names:

Belle
Don
Gray
Hannibal
Jag
Jon
Lana
Remy
Rey
Stark

Jag had had a very annoying day work wise, but he brought the boys out to see Jaina anyway. Sure, it was gross out, but at least they would have fun.

Stark had not been paying attention to where he was walking after leaving the radio station. Oops. Well, he might as well stay here and watch. It was safer without Anakin, right?

Remy had mostly stopped by to see if Harley would get roped into things.

No Skywalker (that he knew of). No shirts. No Harley.

It was a half-hearted Remy who went to go take his place amongst the voluntolds this week.

This was a betrayal.

And Jag had a decent glare going as he went down there, even if Jaina was ignoring it. At least there weren't shirts. That would have been too far.
stykera: (oh that's just great)

Re: Volontolds, come on down!

[personal profile] stykera 2025-07-09 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It was not, in fact, safer without Anakin. Alas.

Stark sighed and headed towards the obstacle course.

Rey didn't mind the shirts. She also wasn't horribly offended that she wasn't getting one today.

She did not yet know that she'd really want an extra clean shirt later.

Belle was already running out of clothes for a variety of reasons and she'd rather hoped to get at least a ridiculous t-shirt out of coming out here today. Nope.

Oh well. What could go wrong?

Lana supposed that using the Force was probably not in the spirit of things. If it were Anakin, she might not care anyway, but so far Jaina hadn't been terrible to her.

Unless today counted.

Lana sighed and resigned herself to it.

Jon had done this before. He had Opinions on this stupid pole.

But as nobody was listening to them, he just started climbing. What he lacked in skill, he made up for in sheer stubbornness.

Hannibal had learned enough not to wear a good linen suit to these things, but he was still lamenting the fate of the designer jeans and cotton button-up he had worn. He doubted they would survive the stains that would result from sitting in this filth until the washing machine was cooperating.

Not that it slowed him down at all.

Rey had probably done this before while scavenging, though there had to have been less grease. She wasn't going to say this was easy, but she was able to get a decent grip with her feet that helped a ton.

Her poor boots.

Stark was grimly determined to do well at this. Trying to prove something to himself, maybe. He gritted his teeth and climbed.

Even he was surprised he did as well as he did though.
noonedecidesmyfate: (belle - yikes)

Re: Round one: Capture the Flag

[personal profile] noonedecidesmyfate 2025-07-09 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Belle surprised herself with her ability to get up the pole.

Belle also surprised herself with the amount of grease coating her outfit after she'd gotten back down again.

Jag was not out of shape, but he also didn't make a habit of climbing poles, let alone poles covered in whatever this was. He was determined though, because he couldn't look bad here. Just couldn't.

Re: Round Two: Quicksand

[personal profile] sharp_man 2025-07-09 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Hannibal abandoned his ruined shirt at the start of this, and had removed his shoes before starting on that pole, so he lost both socks by the end, leaving him in nothing but jeans.

If anyone was surprised a middle-aged gourmand was in as good shape as he was, it was their own problem for not paying better attention.

Re: Round Two: Quicksand

[personal profile] thatwaslucky 2025-07-09 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Rey dealt with quicksand a lot!

Except no she didn't, she'd always been able to get over the stuff in the warehouse so she hadn't actually been in it, and it showed.

And yes, she was trying not to lose a boot.
stykera: (little smile)

Re: Round Two: Quicksand

[personal profile] stykera 2025-07-09 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Was it because Stark was pretty light (*snare*)? Maybe. Maybe he was still trying to prove something.

In any case he scampered across the quicksand much more quickly and easily than anyone could have predicted.

Hey Rey, maybe he wouldn't die just by walking into the warehouse after all!
noonedecidesmyfate: (belle - are you effing kidding me)

Re: Round Two: Quicksand

[personal profile] noonedecidesmyfate 2025-07-09 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Quicksand was not Belle's friend.

Unsurprising, really, since she came from a fairytale world. Quicksand was out to get here, more than likely.

Re: Round Two: Quicksand

[personal profile] owmytoe 2025-07-09 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
This was ridiculous and Jag didn't like it. Whatever was on his shirt from the pole seemed to still be sticky. But he'd do it.

It was beginning to bother him that he seemed to be average at this.

Re: Round Three: Waffle Station

[personal profile] sharp_man 2025-07-09 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Hannibal had numerous skills. Catching things with his head was not one of them. He generally avoided running head-first into things.

He did eventually manage it, but only after being covered by whipped cream and syrup with fruit stuck in it.
thatwaslucky: (serious)

Re: Round Three: Waffle Station

[personal profile] thatwaslucky 2025-07-09 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no this sucked. Sure, Rey got pelted in the face with catapulted berries (and she was pretty sure there was a blueberry in her bra) but it was easy enough to get them in the bucket.

The whipped cream, though, that was chaos.
stykera: (awkward)

Re: Round Three: Waffle Station

[personal profile] stykera 2025-07-09 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, Stark would die if attacked by breakfast foods though. Apparently.

The hat didn't fit too well over the mask. That was probably not the deciding factor.

In any case Stark was completely covered in whipped cream, syrup, and bits of fruit.
Brunch had betrayed him today!
noonedecidesmyfate: (belle - seems sus)

Re: Round Three: Waffle Station

[personal profile] noonedecidesmyfate 2025-07-09 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, this Belle was weirdly good at. She was not going to examine that too closely. She was simply going to be grateful there was more syrup in her hat than on her person.

[personal profile] owmytoe 2025-07-09 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Jag was going to have a long talk with his wife.

He hadn't liked his performance in the last two events, so he was trying a lot harder at this one, and not just because it might leave him slightly less covered in chocolate. Turns out he wasn't terrible at catching whipped cream with his head.
sharp_man: (not buying it)

Re: Round Four: Slip and Slide

[personal profile] sharp_man 2025-07-09 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Hannibal was half-dressed and covered in condiments. But that was no excuse to give himself plastic burn by sliding down this thing.

He walked carefully (and very slowly) down the slide, cupping water from near his feet to help rinse off.

Re: Round Four: Slip and Slide

[personal profile] thatwaslucky 2025-07-09 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
How did Rey end up that much behind when she did pretty well on the last thing? It probably involved her boots.

At least the actual slip and slide part was fun.

Re: Round Four: Slip and Slide

[personal profile] stykera 2025-07-09 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
There was not enough water here to counteract the syrup coating Stark at this point. At least sliding was kind of fun. Would have been more fun if he weren't so sticky though.

Yes, Belle did let out a little "whee" as she went sliding down. Why not? It was fun!

This was undignified, but Jag threw himself along the length of water-covered plastic. This was not the stupidest thing he'd done during all of this.

"Which," he said when he looked back at the little course, "it seems the twins have found."

As evidenced by the grade schooler violently throwing himself down the slide for fun.
