Documentaries 101 (Workshop #2) - A/V Room, Tuesday Morning
Silent Bob is doing something complicated-looking with wires and a sautering iron while Jay stays a very safe distance away. He puts this all away when people arrive, beaming around at everyone with his usual good cheer.
Jay looks disgusted. And a little sullen as he lurks at the back of the classroom with his arms folded and not even trying to see down shirts or up skirts.
Bob has found a whiteboard somewhere and will be using it ruthlessly. He writes in large letters, "Purpose of a Documentary", then, underneath it,
Inform
Entertain
Instruct
Persuade
He moves over to the TV lurking in the corner and begins fiddling with the controls before looking up and glaring at Jay, who jerks upright with an, "Oh! Shit, yeah." Jay hands out a sheet of paper - handwritten and photocopied - with definitions and information on each one.
Silent Bob points at the screen, then points at the list on the board, and then points at the class. Time for a little identify and explain. He plays a two-minute clip from four different documentaries before turning to the class and leaning back with his arms folded, waiting for some input.
That covered, he moved on to
Topic Selection
Below that, he wrote, "JAY". Jay jerked up again with a growl. "Hey, tubby!" Silent Bob just snickered and kept going, holding up his hands about two feet apart and shaking his head. He crossed out "JAY" and wrote, "JAY'S ISSUES WITH INTIMACY"
"I am going to fuck you up so bad . . ." Jay threatened.
Silent Bob snickered again before bringing his hands to an inch apart and shaking his head again. He crossed out "JAY'S ISSUES WITH INTIMACY" and wrote "JAY AND WOMEN".
"Fuck yeah, that's what I'm talkin' about," Jay nodded, pleased. Silent Bob rolled his eyes and moved his hands to a half a foot apart before giving the thumbs up. He turned back to the board and continued writing.
JAY AND WOMEN
- intimacy issues
- bad past relationship(s)
- closeted?
"You are gonna die for this, lunchbox!"
Silent Bob ignored him and kept going.
Purpose + Audience + Broad Topic = Topic
He turned back to the class and held up a topic sign-up sheet before putting it on the table and making the internationally recognised sign for 'Talk amongst yourselves'.
[[Please to be waiting for OCD. OCD away! I'll be gone most of the day, but I'll pick up pings when I can.]]

Clip 2- Entertain
Clip 3- Instruct
Clip 4- INform
But all documentaries should entertain in some way, or why would you bother watching them.
((I'm totally guessing here btw, I've never heard of A Mighty Wind))

Sakurazaki ponders briefly. "Maybe if I opened it up a bit to more than just swords. There are all sorts of different weapons; I've noticed a lot of people around here with different affiliations. Maybe there's something there..."
