"There are giant lizards invading the town today," Don said, and took a sip of his Starbucks, which had accompanied him without incident on his commute through said giant lizards. Look, he was from Marvel 616 New York. He'd had way worse commutes. "So I won't keep you long. If you're new: Welcome. These things happen. First things first, introduce yourselves. Name, rank, serial number--I kid. I do want your names, though, so I can put faces to the roll, and if you could fill me in on your existing familiarity with first aid training so I know what I'm working with, that would be great.

"Now let's talk about our giant lizard friends. What sort of injuries can we expect to see from a fight with a giant lizard? Well, they've got teeth, they've got claws, so expect some scratching and biting injuries, a lot of sewing up holes. Probably tetanus shots all around. But are they venomous? How do we treat that? They might throw someone into a building or something, so you might want to look for concussions, and maybe some broken bones.

"But now let's reconsider. What if it turns out we've been going about this all wrong, and the lizards are friendly? How do we treat the giant lizards we injured before we figured that out? Discuss." He leaned back against the desk and sipped his coffee.

Well. At least he wasn't asking what Quinn's history with violence was.

"Quinn Maybrook," she said, lifting a hand in a little half-hearted wave. "My dad used to be an ER doctor in Philly. So I know some basics."

She also ignored those basics a lot, especially for herself. Poor Glen Maybrook despaired for his daughter a fair amount, even before she went AWOL on her quest for vengeance.

Don couldn't endorse that, Quinn!

"An ER doc, huh?" he asked. He had the utmost respect for those insane guys and their caffeine consumption levels. "I'm sure he did teach you a thing or two." Like to never get on a motorcycle even once.

You mean a “donor cycle”?

“Yep. Know my blood type and everything.”

"I'm Captain Flint and those lizards destroyed some of my books this morning," Flint groused.

"Ah, property damage," Don said. Why did he look so nostalgic? "I mean, that's unfortunate. I'm sorry to hear that. Are you insured?"

"...insured?"

Flint was learning so many new things this week!

"...you know what, don't worry about it."

"Illyana Rasputin," Yana said absently, half looking out the window to see if there were any giant lizards in the immediate vicinity. "I know how to wrap a sprained ankle or wrist, you ice broken ribs -- no bandages or heat, and rinse out a cut or scrape before putting Vaseline on it and then a bandage."

"I get in a lot of fights."

Rasputin, Rasputin...was there an X-Man named Rasputin? Eh, probably didn't matter.

"It's a good start," Don said, "although as a medical professional I should probably encourage less fights." He would be a hypocrite, even though he wasn't personally the one getting in the fights, but he should.

"I almost never start them," she protested half-heartedly. "I just finish them."

How do you deal with giant lizards needing first aid?

Quinn had avoided the giant lizards. She was always happy to let animals be so if they let her be. It was humans that tended to cause her trouble.

"Are there any vets on the island? I feel like they'd be more qualified to treat a giant lizard."

"That's a good point," Don agreed. "I don't think we have a vet on the island, but maybe there's one on staff at the animal shelter I don't know about. So we take our injured lizard to the animal shelter first."

“That sounds . . . easier said than done.”

Quinn had seen the things from a distance. She did not think they’d be into being crated or leashed.

"Dunk them in the ocean so they have to cool off?"

Yeah, Illyana had no idea.

"Do you think they might be overheated?" Don asked. "I have no idea how to tell if a lizard has sun stroke, I gotta tell you."

"If I were a giant lizard on a hot day, yeah, maybe. That hide can't be very cooling." Illyana pointed out. "They don't look like those little lizards that like to be out in the sun. Gekkos? Those are made for heat, these guys really aren't."

"Besides, they can splash as much as they want while we figure out what to do with them. It's better than them hitting people or buildings."

Fair warning, he won't be sticking around long after he finishes his coffee. Thor is itching to introduce some lizards to Mjolnir.

Had to run the cat to the vet this morning. She's fine, just dramatic.
