Elliot waited for the class to assemble and then began her lesson. A variety of handouts described the conditions she named.

"Hey. You guys did great in a tough situation last week. I was really impressed by the emergency management skills you showed."

"This week, we're getting into the nitty-gritty of emergencies affecting the respiratory system, which is how you breathe. You need to breathe so your body can convert oxygen in the air into the oxygen that fuels your body. The most common emergencies involving breathing are choking and near-drowning, but people may also stop breathing because of allergies or asthma. And then there's hyperventilation, which is usually psychosomatic. Not fun, but psychosomatic. About all you can do to stop that is try to take deep breaths."

"Today, I'm going to have you practice the Heimlich Maneuver and rescue breathing. Heimlich hurts like a bitch if you do it right -- seriously, you need to squeeze so hard you think you might break the person's ribs. So practice it on the danger-shop generated people in that room. If you know how to do it on an adult, try it on one of the babies or pregnant women."

"After that, pair up and go practice rescue breathing. You can make your own pairs for that. And, guys, there's nothing gay about it, even if you are afraid of boykissy."

"Oh, and one more thing? Last week, I didn't really do introductions, but I probably should. Tell us your name, age, any experience you have with first aid, and if there's anything weird about your physiology that I might want to know for this workshop. If you aren't comfortable saying it out loud, come see me after the session."

"And finally, the rules; one absence is totally fine. Two unexcused absences, and you get detention. So show up."

"That's it, guys. Go for it."

[OOC: OCD's up. Pretend I used the introductions thread instead of sign-in on purpose. We have 15 people in this class -- if anyone is hanging on the rescue breathing as of tomorrow morning, they'll get to work with either Elliot or one of the multipliers. Also? If your character has a truly major problem with the rescue breathing exercise, please let me know in the OOC thread.]

"Oh yeah," Dawn agreed. "So, rescue breathing, or do you finally want to tell me why you were all grinny yesterday?"

"You didn't hear the radio Sunday night?" Isabel asked. "Because they announced why to the world. Greg asked me out." Her smile got a bit bright when she said this.

Dawn squeed and bounced up and down in teenage girl solidarity. "That's so great! Tell me everything!"

Isabel laughed at Dawn's enthusiasim. "He stopped by Sunday night and we went for a walk. He asked me then. It was so sweet and we had a really nice time. Ironically enough?" she said quietly, "We talked about gnomes." Then she grinned, "We're going out tomorrow night. But he said leave the details to him. Which is fine and fun and it'll be a nice surprise, but I have no clue what to where."

Dawn squeed again, then snickered a little about the gnomes. "Silly boys. If they knew how to dress themselves properly, they wouldn't surprise you with stuff. But Buffy can solve your clothing issues, no problem."

"Oh I have plenty of clothes. Actually I have this gorgeous sundress I bought a few weeks ago that I'd love to wear. I just don't want to be dressy if we're going to be canoeing or something," Isabel explained. "Although he did promise to give me a hint. So I guess I'll have to remind him later on."

"Er, yeah, I'd do that in the next day or two," Dawn winced, "or he may change his plan. Afterwards."

Isabel's face fell. "Do you really think he would? Change his mind? Just because... It's all in fun. And it's not like it's something that's going to eat them."

"Oh, I'm sure not!" Dawn said, realizing she'd made a tactical mistake. "I was just thinking of another guy I knew who might do that. I didn't mean Greg specifically."

And then, there was a heroic sacrifice. "Do you want to...wait?"

"No, it's okay. Hopefully he'll see the humor in it," she laughed. "Otherwise I might have to grovel just a bit. And maybe even bring him and his cabinmates non-exploding pie." Isabel shook her head, "I will be glad to get back to the dorms though. Hopefully the pranking will slow down or stop for a while. It's tiring to always be on your guard."

"Tell me about it," Dawn muttered.

"Do you miss your roommate?" Isabel asked. "I know I miss having Xander around."

"Xander's extremely missable," Dawn said. "And...I guess? Things are a little weird now, since I'm dating Dean, and Sam knows that because Dean told him, and I know that Sam knows, but Sam doesn't know that I know, y'know?"

"I think," Isabel said as she tried to puzzle out the logic of who knew what. "Do you think it's going to bother Sam that you're dating Dean? I mean he might think it's weird going to sleep at night a few feet away from his brother's girlfriend."

"I...don't know. We haven't talked about it."

"Oh," Isabel said quietly. "Maybe you should? Otherwise it might get uncomfortable once you're back in the room."

"I don't know if I want to bring it up. I like Sam, and don't want it to be all weird."

"But you live with him and you're dating his brother. It's kind of hard to avoid isn't it?" Isabel asked. "Especially if he already knows about it. Maybe he's waiting for you to say something?"

"Maybe..." Dawn really didn't like that answer.

"Maybe you should just find him and go for a walk in the woods so you can talk privately?" she suggested. And then Isabel figured it was time to let the subject drop. "So who's going to be the victim?"

"I will," Dawn jumped on the change of subject. "I have practice and everything."

She laid down on her back and tried to look unconscious.

"Sure," Isabel laughed. "Just lie there and look pretty."

She got to her knees next to Dawn and carefully positioned her head so that her airway was open. Pinching Dawn's nose shut, Isabel carefully gave several breathes at five second intervals. When she was done, she sat back and crossed her legs. "Well that was interesting."

Dawn rubbed her chest, a little weirded out by the sensation of having someone else breathe air into her lungs. "My turn now?"

"Sure," Isabel replied with a shrug. She stretched out on the floor and tried to look like a victim.

"Your victim act needs work," Dawn informed her as she tilted Isabel's head back. She pinched Isabel's nose shut, puffed air into her mouth in repeated short bursts, then sat back. "So, are we done?"
