After the ridiculousness of the last two weeks, Arden was surprised (and a little suspicious) when she came into work and found a seemingly-normal library. All books remained shelved and inanimate, gremlins were mysteriously absent, even the bats were roosting up in the eaves and not swooping down.

"I'll take it," she said. "Don't trust it, but I'll take it."

She was just going to take advantage in the lull in the nonsense to get some returns sorted.

It was about to be a little less quiet as Cal and BD-1 came in, hot tea in tow, and looked around. "Hey, how's it going?" he asked. "It looks like the books are keeping their pages to themselves today."

"For now, at least," she said, though the dourness couldn't remain long and she broke out into a bright smile at her guests. "Hiiiii."

Ooh, that was a nice greeting, and Cal felt emboldened enough to steal a kiss. "If they get out of line, you'll remind them who's in charge. No one can say you're not good at your job."

Memo to self: start saying 'hiiiii' all the time.

She returned the kiss, following it up with a hug (and another for BD), and then stayed leaning against him a bit. "So to what do I owe the pleasure? Were you coming to see your girlfriend bully some books? Cause I can still make that happen."

"I mean, it would have been a bonus, but I just wanted to see you," Cal said. "And I know where I can find you easily on Wednesdays. I was thinking about how you and I haven't been off the island in a few weeks, and we should maybe do something about that."

She smiled at him again, all soft and melting. "That's a good point, we haven't," she said. "Did you have plans to fix that? Or are we making them together?"

It was moments like these that Cal thought maybe he wasn't hopeless at the whole boyfriend thing. "Well, I guess we could decide that together. Do you want to plan something together, or do you want a surprise?"

Arden was tempted by the option of a surprise, but that seemed mean to spring on Cal out of the blue. "Let's plan something," she said. "Although, as an fyi, I'm always up for surprises."

Fun surprises, anyway. Callista need not apply.

One of the great things about Jedi training was being good when trying to hide the relief that went through him at not having to plan a surprise she might not like. "I'll keep that in mind," he said, aiming for a casual tone. "Do you want to do dinner? Dancing? Bowling?"

Was he just listing random "date" things? Maybe!

"Bowling sounds like fun!" Arden said. "Dinner out and then Fast Eddie's some night?"

"That sounds like an excellent plan. I should give you a heads up though," Cal said, feigning a look of concern. "I haven't done a lot of bowling, so I might not be very good. You won't think less of me if you beat me, right?"

Surely, she wouldn't, but suggesting it was awfully nice of him, right?

"I never did after beating you all those times in Paintball, did I?" Arden asked with an angelic smile. "...Although I've also never been bowling, so we'll both be terrible."

"Oh, well now we definitely have to go. And maybe bribe the squirrels to not air our failures for everyone," Cal said.

BD jumped down onto the desk and made little kicking motions, because he was more than ready to fight a squirrel on their behalf.

Only for Arden to try to scoop him right back up for a hug. "Then we shouldn't go Friday night," she laughed. "Unless you want Lydia reading about our attempts."
