Arden came into the library slowly, yardstick in hand just in case the library books hadn't gotten the message that the pollen was over and they needed to behave themselves again. "Hello?" she called. "Y'all good?"

Coming further inside proved not only were the books back to behaving normally, the area had even been cleaned up, leaving it good as new. She held onto her suspicion for the first half hour of her shift, just waiting for whatever fresh madness was going to start just when she let down her guard.

It wasn't until she looked up and spotted a small, dark, winged shape fluttering through the air that she let herself relax. Bats? Sure. Bats were fine. She didn't know how they'd gotten into the library or when or how many, but now there were bats here and she was just gonna roll with it.

Who is firmly prepared to tell the bats to stay quiet if their echolocation gets too loud.

“Way too cold for Squishies” was a concept that Kamala had to adjust to but she was happy to bring Arden hot chocolate and one for herself. Hopefully the walk over didn’t cool them off too much.

“Hey, what’s your opinion on peppermint in hot chocolate?” She asked in greeting, putting Arden’s cup on the desk. “Required or optional?”

"Optional," Arden said. "Absolutely delicious, but sometimes you want the classics. What's up, bestie? According to radio yooooooooooooou were in a good mood on Monday..."

"But aren't yooooooooooooooou radio?" Kamala teased. "So really aren't you just saying that?"

She flopped on the desk, a wide grin on her face. "Let's just say Valentine's day was the best. How about you?"

"It just so happens that I am," Arden said laughing. "And you can't just leave it there! What's happened? Did she surprise you with something good? Did you surprise her? Deets!"

Her grin widened as she pulled out and tossed a small bottle of rum to a squirrel who scurried away.

"I got her flowers and made some chocolate strawberries. She got me a really cool book, and some amazing things and..."

She let out a happy sigh. "She stayed in my room overnight. And then I made pancakes for her the next day."

"Overnight?" Arden asked. "Like...crashed over and y'all cuddled all night and it was very sweet or, like, overnight?"

In response to Arden's question, Kamala smiled and took a long swig of her hot chocolate before responding in a very positive and emphatic: "Oh, yes!"

The noise that Arden made was enough to send the bats above them wheeling around in confusion. "Congratulations!" she squealed, reaching out to squeeze Kamala's hands. "I'm so happy for you both!"

"I'm just happy she's happy," Kamala sighed. Happily. "What about you and Cal? Did you guys do anything fun for Valentine's day?"

"No sleepovers, that's for sure," Arden said with a laugh. "Just hung out, got each other flowers, you know. Normal stuff ~~because I was barely around~~. Does this mean you two are sharing a room for the trip...?"

"Awww. That still sounds pretty nice. I haven't asked El yet about the trip but I will and see how she feels. It's one thing to be in a room and another to share it for the week. Are you and Cal sharing?" Kamala asked.

"Probably?" Arden said. "We're not, uh, having overnights yet, but sometimes we do fall asleep together. Helps with his nightmares."

"We're not talking about how I snapped and sent every hot guy I could think of, and I'm sure I missed some, proposition flowers," Gray declared as he entered the library.

...wait.

"Are those bats?"

"Yup those are bats," Arden said. "And yes we absolutely are, because otherwise we'll be talking about how I asked Cal your...your question! And how did you survive the humiliation of asking once to ask a second time?"

"What humiliation?" Gray asked, because following bad advice from a crazy vampire doctor could happen to anybody, Arden! He was over it and Flint was still hot! "And for the record most of them I was asking the first time, anyway...okay, some of them were married and that was not cool of me, but." Details. "Maybe they have open relationships, I don't know!

"Speaking of Cal," that was not what they had been speaking of, "is he?"

"No, no, I mean now that I've asked, I'm never asking anybody again," Arden declared. "I nearly imploded asking the first time." She gave him a pointed look. "And, no, he is also not a eunuch. All parts are present and functional, or so I've been assured."

"You didn't check?" Last week, of all weeks?

"No!" Arden said, flustered. "I said we're going slow!"

"There's slow and then there's pollen week," Gray reasoned. "If you'd been at Caritas on Saturday you probably could have had like two different threesomes." No, Gray.

"I don't want a--" She paused as she considered some of the potential options. Stupid island full of stupidly pretty people. "Probably better I stayed home anyway."

Who might even be one or more of the bats above. Arden doesn't know what he's up to.
