"Since some of you mentioned being friendless and alone last week--" Not one of them had put it like that, Anakin, "--we've decided to facilitate you making friends here in this class!"

"And we thought we'd take a cue from one of the island traditions." Ahsoka had what looked suspiciously like a seating chart. A seating chart that someone had put a lightsaber through. Several times.

"Three Minute Dates," Anakin agreed. "But this time you don't have Tino to blame. In case you don't know how to start with small talk, I have prepared three talking points: 'My favorite color is,' 'I hate the winter because,' and 'Anakin Skywalker is the best teacher for this reason.'"

He beamed at Ahsoka. "It's helpful!" It wasn't.

Ahsoka cheerfully did not offer an opinion on Anakin's helpfulness or lack thereof. "We'll be doing things a bit more free-form." Seating chart. Lightsaber burns. Organising this had seemed a lot simpler when they'd come up with this idea. "More three minute mingling, talk with someone, when the chime sounds, find someone new. If you find yourself gravitating towards certain people, that's probably a sign."

Anakin nodded like he had the first idea what it would be a sign of. "Let's get started."

And that was why Ahsoka had more friends than you, Anakin.

Anakin tried to look approachable, but he tended to have resting "go far away from here, NOW," face, so it might not be working.

Like Graham was going to let that stop him!

"Hi, there!" he said happily. "Hiw's it going? Great class idea! What is your favorite color? Do you really hate winter? Or was that just an unrelated example? Maybe you just need a better coat! Oooh, or a hat! A hat is great in the winter, you lose a lot of heat from your head,did you know that?"

Yes, that was all easily squeezed into the few seconds of a ping.

Anakin smiled despite himself. "Hello, Graham. I really do hate winter, but I grew up in the desert, so I think I'm built for warmer weather. How about you? Do you like winter?"

"Oh, I think it's great!" Graham answered, surprising probably no one. "I can always just pad my cloak extra to keep warm, and the snow is so pretty! It makes it feel like it's a whole new island to explore, you know? And you remember Triumph, right? The best friend I mentioned last time? He looooooooves rolling around in it, too! And then? What you're all done? You go inside and warm up with some nice hot cocoa under some comfy blankets! I guess it really is what you make of it, though. We have winter where I'm from, so I can see why you wouldn't like it if you're used to the dessert. We have one of those, too, but not very many people go out there, it's pretty dangerous!"

"My desert was pretty dangerous, too," Anakin said. "Lots of creatures trying to eat us."

"Ohhhhh," Graham's eyes were wide and impressed. "Mine, too! That's why most people prefer to reach Llewdor by ship, the likelihood of getting eaten by something in the sea is slightly smaller than something in the desert! If you're on a boat, anyway. But swimming? Forget it! You're definitely getting eaten then!

"Daventry doesn't have any deserts, though, so that's a bit different. Just a lot of gorgeous mountains and rivers and streams and lakes! And also things that will eat you!"

"Well, it's no fun at all if there aren't anything trying to eat you."

Anakin's sense of normal was hopelessly skewed.

Charlie wasn't much phased by unapproachable looking faces, so she was happy to stop by. "Hello, Sir! You're welcome to tell me your favorite color if you like. Mine would be, well, pretty much all of them - especially if they're bright. Like my purple hair. Which I'd be happy to change to your favorite color if you'd like!"

She was helpful that way!

"Please don't change your hair," Anakin said. "I like black."

Of course he did.

"Excellent, because I rather like my hair the color it is," Charlie said. "For now anyway."

Blue. That might be a good next hair color.

"How did you end up in Fandom anyway?"

"I went to high school here and returned after a few years in my home galaxy," Anakin said. "I've been here almost twenty years."

"Wow!" said 18 year old Charlie. "That means..."

Was she going to say it?

"That means..." and then the Auntie memories kicked in. "Um... you must know a lot about Fandom."

Sure, that was always what she meant to say.

Anakin arched an eyebrow. "You trying to call me old?"

"You mean because you've been here since before I was born?" Charlie asked cheekily. "No, Sir. Just means you're seasoned. Besides, if you ever met my Auntie Ruby you'd know what old is and you've got a long way to go there!"

"Does it count if I speak with you?"

"I think it should," Anakin said.

"You are in charge of the class," Stark said. "Or maybe you aren't."

Was Ahsoka really the boss here?

"Er. Hello." That was a good start, right?

"Hello," Anakin said evenly, waiting for one of the handy small talk prompts he'd given out already.

"I don't think I really have a favorite color," Jon said. "I've never really thought about it. I suppose...I like...um. Blue?"

Blue seemed like a nice color.

"Are you sure or did you just make that up?" Anakin asked.

"I like blue," Jon said defensively. "I don't really have a favorite color, but blue is...is nice."

"Why don't you have a favorite color?" Anakin asked.

Jon shrugged. "I don't particularly think about colors, I suppose. It's not exactly a necessity. I suppose you do have one, then."
