Anakin swept into the classroom, robes sweeping around his ankles. "Hello, everyone, and welcome to Daring Escapes."

He had not actually checked what the moose had submitted to the course catalog.

"Or as we like to call it, the Power of Friendship" Ahsoka read off her copy of the class roster. "Because trust and friendship are the most vital tools in securing a daring escape." Not that she was inclined to trust Anakin with the datawork after this.

Anakin turned to look at Ahsoka. "I'm sorry, what?"

Ahsoka wordlessly passed him the roster, which helpfully even had the class description at the top. And glittery stickers.

There was a long, awkward pause. "I'm sorry, what?" Anakin repeated. Louder.

"We're teaching a class on friendship," Ahsoka said serenely. Possibly because she actually knew how to make friends.

Anakin could make friends! Sometimes! For now, though, he was still staring at Ahsoka. "We are?"

"We are." The glittery stickers did not lie.

"We are." There was a moose that was about to get an earful.

"Right. Introductions. Your name and the name of your best friend, should you have one, and three things you like about them."

Anakin covered like a pro, right?

Your name, the name of your best friend, and what you like most about them.

"Hi, I'm Charlie Gale and my absolute best friend is my cousin Allie. I mean, she backed off the Aunties for me, so right? But also, she's funny and kind, and just straight-laced enough to make teasing her fun."

Charlie smiled over at Graham. "But my best friend here is probably Graham because he's awesome and great with puns and always up for adventure."

Anakin's eyebrows furrowed. "Backed off the aunties?" he repeated.

"You've met my Aunties," Charlie said. "They can be..." Overwhelming, intimidating, intrusive, rude, domineering... "...a lot. Allie kept them at bay while I recovered from being lost after Walking the Wood. I'll never forget that. I just couldn't have dealt with them then."

Did her answer raise more questions? Possibly.

Anakin couldn't hear capitalization, so he was assuming that Charlie had gotten lost while hiking and could understand why her aunts would be concerned about that.

"Perhaps talking to them one at a time would have been better."

Charlie shook her head. "They pretty much travel in gangs. Which phrasing I will totally deny if asked."

"I'm Gray," Gray said, "and..." Don't mind him ducking down in his hoodie. "I don't know that I have a best friend?" Congratulations on accidentally hitting one of his deep insecurities! "I mean, I have a lot of friends, but...can someone be my best friend if I'm not their best friend?"

It was a natural side effect of sleeping through so much, he figured. All of his brothers looked to another brother first: Alastair and Galen, Castor and Raiden, Bellamy and Daman. And even on the island, he would probably say Arden was his best friend, but he knew Kamala was Arden's, so...yeah. Insecurities ahoy!

Now would be a great time for Sloth to kick in, he was just saying.

"I think you can still consider someone your best friend even if they might not feel the same way," Anakin said. "If you feel you have revealed yourself to them more than you to others, then you yourself are closer."

"Hey, everyone!" Graham grinned from one large ear to the other, sweeping a hand in the air in a wave. "I'm Graham! Sir Graham! Sir Graham of Daventry! And my best friend is none other than my faithful, trusty steed, Triumph! We've been friends ever since we were both pretty little, and he's always been there for me, through thick and thin! I love that he's always ready for an adventure, he's quick as the wind....well, okay, maybe not the wind, but he is pretty fast! And he's also really, really cute! He's the best snuggler there is, and I know there are several people in this room right now who can probably verify that! Also, he loves jellybeans almost as much as I do, but he always lets me have all the popcorn flavored ones because he knows they're my favorite. If you haven't met Triumph yet, you should! I'm totally biased, because he's totally my bestie, but he's the greatest!

"And," he added, sending a smile over at Charlie, too, "my best friend here is....right back at'cha, Charlie!" He enthusiastically pointed two fingers her way and gave her a wink with a laugh, because, you know what? One good turn deserved another! "She always appreciates my puns, she's makes some amazing music that always makes me wanna dance, and, you might be noticing a trend here, but she's always up for an adventure, too! And always comes up with some of the most fun ones!"

"Do you think Triumph considers you his best friend as well?" Anakin asked.

"Vi, Steph's my best friend and she kind and a smart ass and she's got my back."

At least that was the answer about things she liked about Steph that was appropriate for company.

"And why do you like those qualities in a friend?" Anakin asked.

"...why wouldn't you?" Professor Skywalker did have friends, right?

...kind of? Was your wife your friend any more?

"Everyone's picking slightly different ways to describe it, so I'm more interested in why you chose 'smart ass'," Anakin said.

Well, Vi's best friend was also her girlfriend, and her best friend before that was her baby sister so she couldn't really judge.

Vi shrugged. "It's fun when we tease each other."

Anakin grinned. "I did that with my best friend at home, too."

At least until the fighting and the maiming and the burning and the screaming...

"I'm Rey," she said, because the Skywalker part sounded a little nepo baby here. "Should I say my best friend here or at home?"

You had to pick or she'd keep you here all day.

"Here," Anakin said, smiling.

"I'm Belle," Belle said. "And I'm not sure I have a best friend. There are people here I'm very fond of but I don't know who I would call my best friend."

"Why wouldn't you use that term?" Anakin asked.

"I'm Stark," Stark said. "And...Summer is my best friend. She's someone I know will tell me things I need to hear and not just things I want to hear."

"It's important to be able to hear the unvarnished truth," Anakin agreed, nodding.

"I'm Jonathan Sims. Jon." He fidgeted. "I...um. I...I suppose my boyfriend Martin would be my best friend?? Though I...well, I haven't seen him since I...since just before I got here. But he's sweet, and he's bitchy, and he makes the best tea."

"How can someone be both sweet and bitchy?" Anakin asked.

"Er...well, he's...he's very sweet most of the time, but he's definitely got an edge that people don't expect," Jon explained with a fond smile.
