It was December now, which meant time for Arden to start making a holiday gift list and checking it twice. She had a lot more people to buy for this year than she had last and that thought made her almost glow slightly with happiness. Not literally though. She'd checked.

Still it was amazing how much could change in just a matter of a few months. Hells, she'd only run away from Callista's house not even a full year and a half ago? And now she had friends, a boyfriend, a best friend, mentors...

Families.

It was practically dizzying.

...And so was the number of people now that she had to buy gifts for, but still. What a problem to have, right? Much better than the alternative.

The real question though - did she have enough creativity for shopping for all these folks?

Ooof.

The first thing Gray said when he entered the library was, "Okay, don't be intimidated, but Castor is probably going to send you like a survey soon."

It was probably reassuring that she was getting a survey from Castor and not Bellamy, actually.

"A survey?" Arden asked. "What kind of survey? About what? How long?"

For a very weird moment, she was wondering if she was going to get a Rate Out Thanksgiving survey or something and that was very weird in her brain.

"It's like a...'what do you want for Christmas-slash-what are your boundaries on Christmas presents?' kind of deal," Gray explained, waving a hand vaguely. "So he can direct the Greed without freaking you out." He had given her a luxury sports car at first acquaintance. The horse was probably out of the barn on that one. "I dunno. I never got one. But Greed is real bad this time of year, because of, y'know, the commercialism, so." Gray slouched into a chair and shrugged. "I try to keep him distracted, but he always goes overboard."

Yeah, Gray, sure, that was totally why you forced everyone to participate in Christmas activities, and not because you were a weird little Christmas goblin. You just keep on trying to sell that.

Arden temporarily segfaulted. She had never had to put boundaries on Christmas presents before. "Uhhh...not...real estate? I guess? No...boats or planes or helicopters?"

Part of her felt stupid for even suggesting that. But then the rest of her remembered the Birdmobile.

"I don't really--wait a second, did you really just try to convince me that you going crazy at the Christmas Market yesterday was for Castor?"

Could you hear her calling you a liar in her head? Maybe the telepathy was working!

"You sure you don't want a boat?" Gray teased. "To go with your collection?...and no, of course not. Castor wasn't there. That was all for me." Because Christmas goblin.

"Absolutely not," Arden declared. "No boats!" She sounded as if she were outlawing capes. "What do you usually get your brothers? What do you all, like, not even have yet?"

"We always need something," Gray said. "We all have hobbies and stuff...okay, Bellamy and Galen are kind of hard to shop for, because they don't like stuff, you know? Daman keeps threatening to assign Bell an animal that he's going to have to collect now. But like, give Al some fancy tea thing or Cas a shiny object and they're happy."

"Bellamy is getting coal in his stocking," Arden grumbled. "And Galen...does he like...experiences? Art museums? Concerts? Anything?"

Maybe a nice plant...?

"He likes working out and killing demons." Galen, why were you like this. "And being obnoxiously overprotective."

He could overprotect a plant! It would liven up his room.

"And--" And Gray was a sloth?

Arden looked down at the sloth that was now sitting on the circulation desk. "Oh nooooo," she groaned, though there was a giggle in it, too. "You're gonna be so mad to miss out on all the Christmas stuff!"

She reached out for him and let him wrap around her. "Fortunately, Kams prepared me, I'm a sloth-sitting expert," she promised him.

Gray clung to Arden in a manner that did its best to convey that he didn't have to miss out on the Christmas stuff! Surely sloths could eat gingerbread and watch movies about sexy snowmen too!

"I'll see if there's any anime Christmas specials," she promised.
