Library, Thursday 9/19

There were so many pirate books set out in the library today.

That was fine. Belle was happy to peruse some adventures on the high seas!

There was also a gremlin throwing a football.

"Absolutely not," Belle said firmly. "We do not play ball in the library. Because it is a library!"

The gremlin looked shocked. Belle just glared it into submission before picking up what looked like a thrilling (and perhaps spicy) pirate novel.

Eleanor wasn't really here for pirates, and she didn't really need much help since she was pretty familiar with perusing the poetry sections of the library already, but she did figure she would at least offer today's library assistant a small smile and a wave.

"Hi, Belle," she said. "How are you today?"

Which didn't exactly sound very pirate-like of them, but she may be suckered into a book or two if there were any good deep sea monsters or sirens in any of them...

"Really good, actually," Eleanor responded, with a wistful sort of wonderment over just how true that was. She smiled and held up a neat list of names from some of the preliminary research she'd done on her phone. "Just coming in to look for a few poets. Was someone really throwing a ball in here?"

She'd encountered a lot of crazy stuff in her life, sure, but this was a library!

Eleanor was now sending a worried glance toward the poetry section, at least where it had always been any time she'd been in.

"I'll come and ask for help if I need it," she assured Belle with a nod, "but I hope it won't be difficult to find them. I might need to dig up some translation dictionaries, too, if they're not in English, but I feel like this place almost always has those bases covered."

"I guess you could call it a personal project," Eleanor said, her smile just a touch sheepish, a little mottled green in her skin with her blush. "I wanted to see if we had some works by Pakistani poets. But they're mostly written in Urdu, I think, so if we don't have English translations...or French, maybe...I'll have to translate them myself."

After a brief spark of a thought, she add, "Maybe will get the language books, too, anyway. It probably wouldn't hurt to try and learn."

How impressed would Kamala's parents be if the next thank you note was even written in Urdu? Eleanor was pretty sure she'd be set for life with them, at that point.

Eleanor nodded a little. "I was planning on my phone being able to help me out with pronunciation a lot," she admitted. "It's amazing, isn't it? Everything we can do on such tiny little things? I wouldn't even know where to start if I couldn't just look up some stuff on my phone like this."

"I don't even think anyone back home would be able to think something like them could ever actually exist."

Back home being the 1970s, and not the 1960s, it was totally the '70s this whole time, someone absolutely did not realize how much they messed up the math literally the other day, perish the thought, doo doo doo.

"And I know things would be a lot different for me without one now, too."

Not even just for information! The mere existence of texted messages had sent her social life into an unexpected trajectory that might have never been reached if not for them!
