The library was up to nothing??? weird today??? Arden kept expecting something, but apparently it just...wasn't? No gremlins, no creepy whispers, no books doing anything other than...sitting there, unmoving, the way books were supposed to.

She didn't trust this even a little bit, but it didn't matter how often she tried to surprise check up anything, it just stayed...normal.

This was weird and she didn't like it. She had her eye on you, library.

From the expression on her face, Arden was also realizing that she had no idea what her biology meant. She didn't intend to do drugs or anything, but not knowing what was and wasn't safe for her to do anyway was frustrating. She knew so little about herself!

"So long as they're not serving anything out of bronze cups, or anything with chicken in it or whatever, I should be okay," she said.

"The cups are plastic so no one can break them, and there's no food," Gray assured her. "...and it's not like Caritas where Summer might put chicken in the drinks one of these weeks.

He'd spoken it into existence, hadn't he? Chicken and malort, coming to a bar near you.

"I think you should be fine. And if you're not having fun we can go home and watch movies instead."

Gray, why would you do that? The island didn't need Tino introducing a Malort take on chicken pot pie.

"I'm gonna be fine," Arden said firmly. "I'm gonna be fine and have fun and watch you hit on guys and laugh and you can watch me flirt and also laugh. We're gonna have a great time."

Sometimes he just said things! They just came out of his mouth! Like questions about someone being a eunuch, or pickup lines that involved squirrels.

"That's the spirit!" Gray cheered her on. "And you'll get to be around a bunch of nonhumans!" Even if she was still pretending to be human. Baby steps, he figured.

Fortunately, nothing could possibly happen to ruin that pretense, either there or right here on the island!

"Apparently the first step in becoming less afraid of supernatural folks--" or, at least, as being clocked as one "--is to go out dancing--" at a sex club "--with them," Arden said. "Makes sense to me."
