Ethics, Tuesday, First Period

Class was meeting in the Danger Shop today, where there was no sign of Anakin, but there were piles of pet costumes and a number of simulated cats who looked remarkably similar to Anakitty.

"Following on from last week, one important aspect of developing your sense of ethics, is that developing one takes work," Ahsoka said after greeting the class. "You have to learn to understand yourself and your faults, and that you will have stumbles and failure. There are few things as dangerous as someone who believes they can never be in the wrong. Or that they could never act in an unethical manner.

"The truth is that there are very few people who cannot rationalise a certain amount of flexibility with regards to living up to their own ethical standards. For example, many ethical systems agree that harming another is wrong, but what constitutes harm? Is it physical damage, emotional trauma, bruised dignity?

"Say you do believe the last is an unethical form of harm. So if you were in a position where you could bruise someone's dignity, perhaps by dressing them in the most embarrassing costume you could find while they were turned into a cat," To pick a completely random example. "Of course you wouldn't do it.

"But what if this person had previously caused you a similar embarrassment? Would that make it more or less ethical? What if it wasn't actually them but a stand in? What if someone was planning on taking holos to show this person later?" She paused significantly. "These are all pressing ethical questions, that I trust you will give serious consideration during this lesson."

Kamala was looking at the cat costumes, the cat and Ahsoka with a bewildered look on her face.

This seemed more like an opportunity to embarrass someone than actually discuss ethics.

However the word on the street was that Dean Skywalker was a cat. And it appeared that his fellow teacher was taking advantage of the fact. And really, Kamala would never force a person to wear a costume against their will.

On the other hand those costumes were ADORABLE.

Adrian wasn't pondering whether or not it was an ethical dilemma to dress up the cat. Adrian was pondering whether or not Boston would hear about him doing so.

So yeah, less ethics, more self-preservation.

Lydia was picturing Kitty's reaction to Lydia trying to dress her cat self up in little outfits...well, actually, no, Lydia had done that, hadn't she, before Kitty had been her sister? She wondered if Kitty remembered that, and what she thought about it.

Now she was mentally composing a letter to her sister, and not at all engaging with the ethical dilemma presented.

"Well I think the real question is will the indignity of this have a lasting effect on said person-slash-cat," Kamala replied. "Would there be a serious impact to the person-cat in question. The question is relative and OH MY GOD IS THAT A RAT MAN COSTUME?!"

Okay, ethical considerations were harder than Kamala thought.

"If the person who was currently a cat was someone who had let their daughter dye me rainbow colors when I was a koala I might think putting him in a costume would be very reasonable," Stark said.

Especially a sparkly costume like the one he was currently holding in his hands.

Vi didn't hesitate for a moment before starting to dress one of the Anakitties in a little robe. After all, summers of shenanigans proved that Professor Skywalker wouldn't.
