Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

Paige shrugged again, "well I guess we can that out if it comes up," she said then she noticed something was wrong with Maia, "am I missing something?" she asked.

Maia shrugged. "No, don't worry about it." Maia's voice was quiet, the last thing she wanted was to cry over it in front of all these people. "I miss Susan is all." She said for an explanation.

Again Paige is clueless, "Susan?" she questioned softly.

"Ivanova. She graduated. We wer- We are lovers." Maia said keeping Susan's position in her life in the present tense made her body not ache so badly.

Paige bit her lip, "oh right, yeah I know who you mean now. Sorry Mai," she said stepping forward and hugging her, "I have ice cream," she said casually, because in Paige's experinece ice cream generally made things better.

"No, it's alright. I fear with all that I've lost lately I have depleted your icecream supply." She gave Paige a sad smile. "I'm gonna go, I don't really feel up to mingling with all the new people today." She sort of shrugged and looked at the ground. "I just...I dunno I just can't do it today you know."

Paige nodded knowing exactly how Maia felt, "I can move in tomorrow if you want?" she offered.

Maia shook her head. "No, it's ok. I just...just don't like the crowd so close around me you know." She said quietly. "I'm gonna head back in. Get my stuff ready for summer term. I'll see you later today, maybe we can drink some wine or something."

Paige gave her sympathetic smile, "yeah sure I understand, I'll see you later okay?" she said softly.

Maia nodded, dangling her summer packete behind her she walked slowly up towards the school. Her face turning towards the sky every now and then as she walked.
