Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

Briar turned around. "Briar Moss, your future roommate apparently." He offered his hand to shake.

"Briar, huh?" Xander said, taking the offered hand. He couldn't help but notice the tattoos. "Whoa, cool. Magic?"

"Sorceror-in-training," Xander said. "Though I only just found out about magic being real a few months ago."

"Sorceror? Magic's not common where you're from?"

"Not at all." Xander said, shaking his head. "One minute, my friends and I were walking in the forest- the next, we're standing inside a giant tree and being told that we have magic abilities." He decided not to go into that whole thing where he was actually a clone of his original self, because that still made *his* head hurt.

"That's fairly similar to what happened to me and my mates. Except a little more wet." Briar didn't bother going into details. And it's a good thing Xander didn't mention the clone thing, because then there would have been two headaches.

"Same here. I wonder if they *knew*, and that's why they roomed us together. From what my teacher said about this place, I wouldn't put it past them."
