Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. ~~That's what the mingling section is for!~~

"Yeah." Dean looked back over to where Sammy was still talking earnestly with his new roommate and felt his mouth tug upwards into a smile. "Sammy's a good kid. Don't get me wrong -- he can be a pain in the ass a lot of the time, but..." He shrugged. "He's family."

"I just wasn't sure if I should expect to find you two fighting on the floor of our room or not," Cedric says with a smirk. "Sibling rivalry and all."

"Well..." Dean shuffled his feet. "You might. But it'll never be serious. Sammy and I just like to scrap sometimes. Y'know, to stay in practice." He shut up before he could say what they were staying in practice for. Don't need to scare the nice British kid with stories of ghosts and demons.

"If it happens, should I pull you apart or cheer one of you on?"

"Cheer us on." Dean grinned. "If you want, you can even take bets."

"Right," Cedric says with a nod. "Cheer. Take bets. Let you fight. I'll see if I can manage to gather an audience as well."

"Why not? Could maybe be a money making enterprise. Though Sammy and I will need our cut if we're the entertainment."

"Of course." He nods and looks back over at Dean's brother. "Meanwhile, for our room, I've got no problems with just about anything."

"Yeah, I'm pretty easy too. Long as you don't, y'know, try and raise a demon or something." Speaking of... "You wouldn't mind if I.. uh... put salt down around the door and windows would you?"

"I don't plan on raising any demons, no. Not that I can even do that so don't worry about it." Frowning at the request, he nods. "That's fine. You'll have to explain the significance but I don't mind."

Dean tried to come up with something that soounded like a plausible reason -- religious ritual? family tradition, he has OCD and it manifests by his deep seated need to be surrounded by salt? -- but finally gave it up and just told the truth. "It's for protection," he said. "Keeps bad things out. Okay, granted it's a little messy, but believe me, that's the lesser of two evils.

Cedric nods, tucking his hands in his pockets. "It's fine, Dean, really. If it helps, by all means do it. I'm all for extra protection."

Dean nodded, grateful. Cedric may not be as pretty as Sam's roommate, but he seemed like a good guy.

"Thanks." He looked around, saw some tables of food set up a ways away and was reminded that it had been around since they'd last stop for food. "Listen, I'm going to go grab something to eat. I'll see you upstairs later..?"

"Yeah." Cedric smiles and nods. "Good to meet you, Dean. I'll see you later."
