Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

"Designed?" Dawn looked at the stake in Zoe's hand and sighed, then pulled five more stakes out of her bag and put them on the table. After all, it wasn't like she couldn't make more in an emergency. "How do you feel about holy water?"

She turned at the sound a familiar voice. "Xander?" But...he looked so young and had both eyes. And she'd left him back with Buffy. With one eye, and looking so much older.

"Er...hi?" Xander cocked his head at her. "Does my reputation precede me? Because if John Crichton invited you to some kind of party in my honor or anything, he's on crack. Just saying."

"Who's John Crichton?" She gave him a look that said she thought he'd lost his mind. "I'm Dawn. You know my sister Buffy?"

Finally he answered intelligently, "Do I what now?"

"Buffy. Summers." She leaned in and whispered, just in case he'd been hit on the head recently, "She who kills fangy people except for under certain circumstances. Is my older sister."

Finally Xander's brain rallied. Sorta. Because this was fandom, and it wasn't like he wasn't dating somebody from fifteen minutes years into the future or so.

If Dawn rolled her eyes any harder, they'd fall out of her head onto the floor and under the food table.

"The Buffy I know is nineteen, and if she has a sister, I'm pretty sure she doesn't know about it, let alone me." Xander smiles a little awkwardly.

"So I'm guessing you're from a really alternate dimension? Like Ralph Nader is president and the Cubs have a three year World Series winning streak going?"

Nineteen. Nineteen. Oh, crap. Her eyes widened as she wondered if she could redo the last five minutes.

"Yes," she nodded quickly, "that's it exactly. Yup. I come from a land of ecological responsibility and miracle baseball. It's a good place."

He eyed her, grinning slightly. "Yuh...huh. Aside from wondering how you know it'd be a miracle, then, I find it difficult to believe such a land exists in any universe."

Xander thought about that, then laughed. "Okay, fair point." The blinky... hadn't really stopped, it had just grown less seizure-like. "So... Buffy has a sister. Somewhere. Seriously."

"Um. When she was..." Xander's brain couldn't do math anymore. Simple addition as a concept? Pfft. Exhausted. Forget about comparing ages. "Five?" he guessed wildly.
