Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday, July 10

Instead of a maniac in a cloak, today’s events would be presided over by two gods of thunder.

Well. One god of thunder and one guy with a stick.

“Dean Skywalker was…unavailable today,” Don said, “so we’ve put together an…activity based on the materials he’d gathered and some notes he left behind.” Odin help them all.

"We did our best," Jane promised the group with a concerned look. "It was just…an interesting mix of things."

And a very strange note.

“Today we will be playing, um…” Don sighed. “Live Action Little Bunny Foo Foo.” That was it. That was what the note had said.

Jane just gave everyone a sympathetic look and nodded along with that. "You'll all do great. We're sure."

People were going to get so smacked by pool noodles.

Pray that the gods of shenanigans pass you over today!

Dean should know better than to show up today in the park. He really should.

But the option to mock people who were in costume was too good to pass up.

The gods of shenanigans were not here for you. The gods of thunder were.

Eleanor was regarding her costume with a fairly blank expression that hid the somewhat dismayed feelings she had toward it. Trying hard not to think of that first night back home, when they feasted on rabbits that Luma, Rhys, and her grandfather had hunted. White throats also pink, but with blood.

It felt terribly ironic, now, to wear the pantomime of one of those rabbits. But at least now she wasn't fainting over any of it. Yet.

Dean wasn't sure who came up with the idea of him wearing a pink bunny suit.

But he had ideas.

He put it on begrudgingly and pouted a bit.

"Now I know how Ralphie felt."

Okay, the onesie was weird but a cute weird.

And yes, Kamala was keeping it.

"Oh, I am so keeping this," Gray declared as he climbed into his onesie. "This is comfy."

Don was absolutely getting an injured, I-trusted-you look from Arden. Dirty pool, Don. Dirty pool.

See if she didn't tell the whole island your business the next time you stuck your dick in the crazy.

"Arden!" Gray exclaimed, waving enthusiastically at her. "We're twinsies!" Or, y'know, teammates. Same thing.

"Clearly, we need a cute animal onesie slumber party," Arden called back. "Also, stop pulling off field mouse better than I can!"

Stupid very pretty Nephilim.

Don't worry, Arden. Somewhere, Kathy was nodding in emphatic agreement with you.

Gray gasped in delight and flapped his possum-y arms. "Oh! We totally should!" Anyone who didn't already have a onesie could borrow one of Gray's collection.

"You still got your million Squishables from when we burned down the Walmart, right?"

This slumber party was just getting better and better.

"Duh. They might be colonizing Graham's side of the room now that he fucked off to be a knight without us." He leaned toward her and whispered, "Don't tell Triumph."

"I would never," Arden promised, crossing her heart. "Your secret is safe with me."

Theme of the morning, really.

Don gave Arden a helpless sort of shrug. He was doing his best with what he had been given here, he swore!

And she got a free, uh, possum onesie out of it?

Dirty. Pool.

Arden would remember this.

"Oh shit!" Navaan said, holding up her 'fairy godmother' onesie. "Anyone else thinking this costume is, like, weirdly fuckable? Oh yeah. I'd fuck this fairy godmother."

Look, Mothman was, objectively the hottest of all cryptids. Don't

Congratulations, you'd made Vi miss the shirts.

There will be two rounds! The player designated ‘Little Bunny Foo Foo’ must catch the opposing team’s ‘Field Mouse’ and bop them on the head (with their pool noodle). The opposing team’s ‘Good Fairy’ must do their best (using only their pool noodle) to impede Little Bunny Foo Foo from successfully bopping the field mouse on the head. The first Little Bunny Foo Foo to bop their mouse wins the round.

"You know," mused Summer, once her brain was managing to wrap around exactly what was going on here, "in a very different context, this could actually be pretty hot."

And, with that finally out of her brain and into the ether where she felt she no longer had to be responsible for it, Summer wielded her pool noodle and went to try and smack Steph on the head with it, apparently.

"Right?!" Navaan agreed. "Like, I look even more fuckable in this costume!"

It had undergone some...cosmetic changes.

Dean looked at the pool noodle and then at Gray.

"Really? Just hit them with it?" Dean asked and then shrugged and went after Gray.

Look if he was going to look ridiculous he was going to win while looking ridiculous.

"Oh, no!" Gray called, laughing, as he ran away. In his possum onesie. "Don't catch me! Stewart, protect me!"

Beta vs. Belle & Vi/Eleanor Zarrin vs. Arden Finch & Kamala Khan

Kamala had her pool noodle out and was ready to defend her bestie. But not too much because Eleanor and her...

Look. There was an internal conflict going on that involved pool noodles. Just know that.

Eleanor's own internal conflict went quite a bit beyond just pool noodles, but, suffice it to say, this was probably going to be the most reserved attempt to hit each other with pool noodles ever, because the last thing Eleanor wanted to do was trigger that hunting instinct during a dumb game while wearing a giant bunny onesie.

Although a part of her really did continue to appreciate the irony. In an....ironic sort of way.

Either way, she was totally going after Arden with all she had, really! Definitely going all out on this with those mighty might-as-well-be-swinging-through-molasses swings of hers!

Honestly, of all the possible Shenanigans this could be, it wasn't actually too terribly bad. There was neither sun-warmed pudding nor cicadas involved, so...on the grand scheme of things, it could be a lot worse.

Which was why Arden was scuttling around wailing, "Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaave meeeee, Kamala! Be a superhero and saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaave meeeeeeee!"

"But turning someone into a goon is mean!" Kamala protested as she tripped over her costume and flailed about with the pool noodle.

"So is taking all the field mice and bopping them on the head!"

"I did not expect shenanigans to be filled with moral quandries!" Kamala complained.

"Don't say that out loud! Don't make them think this is at all educational!"

Forgive Belle if she was giving Navaan a very skeptical look. Not someone she would have chosen to protect her from being bopped on the head but this was the hand she had been dealt.

So, Belle in her rather adorable mouse costume took off running away from Beta.

Who were here, just doing their best, folks. Just doing their best.

Elaine wants that possum onesie so much, y'all.
