Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday, June 26, 202

There was an ice skating rink set up in the center of the park, which would be nice of a day like today if center ice hadn't been ominously filled with plastic ball pit balls. There were four laundry baskets spread out equally around the circle of balls, four scooters--red, yellow, blue, and green--next to the baskets, and most disturbingly of all...four hippo costumes.

Anakin, what have you wrought?

"We're playing Hungry Hungry Hippos," Anakin announced through the unnecessary megaphone. "And by we I mean you. Listen for your names!"

"You only need to wear the costume while you're retrieving the balls!" Anakin announced like that made it better. He pointed to the boring red, blue, green, and yellow t-shirts next to him. "Just wear the t-shirts for everything else."

Kamala was in her full hippo outfit before she came skipping over to see Eleanor.

"Hi Eleanor! Aren't these outfits great?"

Kamala was apparently a sucker for shenanigan day outfits.

Eleanor just sort of look at Kamala for a moment.

"They're..."

Well, they certainly were pretty effective in at least hiding people's bodies!

"...definitely going to make this activity even more interesting that it's already looking like it might be," she concluded, because you know what? That was very truthful and generous and safe, she felt!

Still, she had to smile, just a little bit, at her enthusiasm. "I'm glad you like them, though."

"Part of it is that it looks like the character from meta for Shrek!" Kamala explained. "Which you might not have seen since it's way after your time. Definitely worth checking out."

"Yeah, I have...no idea what that is," Eleanor admitted, with a little bit of a sheepish, awkward sort of laugh and a shake of her head. "Is that a television show? A cartoon, probably, right?"

Honestly, if Eleanor had grown up with TV, she might have thought it looked like it fit right in with some of the cartoons of her time, but she was even clueless on pop culture back then, too.

"Oh, you'd love it. It's a movie series. The first one is about an Ogre that rescues a princess and makes friends with a talking donkey," Kamala explained looking ridiculous as she talks with her hands and makes the mask bounce along. "It's animated but it's set up in the backdrop of fairy tales. So there's a gingerbread man, dwarves, it's pretty cool."

Eleanor was finding it incredibly difficult to keep a straight face or take this green hippo with Kamala's voice even remotely seriously, but she tried her hardest and managed to succeed, her head also nodding along, albeit it obviously much less comical effect.

"I'll have to check it out, then," she said. "It does sound like it could be pretty interesting. Meta forShrek, huh?"

And she did know fairy tales. Generally how laughably wrong they got all the details, but still.

"Exactly," Kamala said with another nod of her hippo head. "Also? Prepare to be amazed. My plant is still alive!"

Her hippo arms went up high to celebrate her small victory.

A small laugh escaped Eleanor just then, hand going to her mouth a little too late to cover it, but at least it wasn't just being given this news by a green hippo that coaxed it out of her, but the news itself as well.

"Is it?" she asked. "That is amazing! Congratulations! I know when I got to my first few weeks of not having a drakondia die on me, I was ecstatic. I'm so glad to hear that, Kamala."

It would be a little sad if she didn't have any more excuses to swing by the shop anymore, with her plant so hearty and hale now, but, well, that was overall probably the better outcome, all things considered.

Oh, that plant was barely hanging on to life. Kamala just considered the still green parts alive as a victory.

“Yes,” Kamala said with a nod of her hippo head. “I’m very proud of how well it’s doing. I think I may have to give it a name.”
