Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday, June 5, 2024

It was not just you, it was a little buggy in the park this morning. Welcome, everyone, to Anakin Skywalker's Salute to Cicadas themed game today!

You were probably not nearly as thrilled about it as Cal and Arden, who'd helped set up said theme. Ohhhh, it was gonna be great!*

"Welcome!" Anakin called out as people arrived. "Today we will have only two teams led by Cal and Arden." Their shirts might be a clue about what horrors fun awaited you! "There is a fascinating scientific event happening on this continent right now, and while it is not impacting us fully, I believe we should embrace learning about the fascinating cicada, which has any number of useful traits."

He smiled. "For instance, did you know that it's extremely nutritious?"

Anakin, why are you like this.

"We will begin with a relay race and end with a game of skill!" Was Flip Cup really a game of skill? Guess we'll find out! "Listen for your names! You may not use your powers."

Team Brood Awakening
Cal
Stewart
Kitty
Graham
Belle
Eleanor
Steph
Steve R

Team Cicada Reunion
Arden
Gray

Ben
Rey

*not really.

"I've married Tony Stark and worked with the Avengers," Steve said with a grin. "We're pretty competitive."

In case she'd missed Thor's vow.

He took a shot and shuddered, but at least his preternatural ability to make geometry work for him also extended to drinking games because his cup flipped upside down on the first try.

Steph snickered as she reached for her next shot. "Dude, nice."

She had totally noticed, yes.

She did not manage to down the shot on her first attempt, or the second, due to some unfortunate spluttering. With an annoyed noise and some wild gesticulating with her free hand she gulped the whole thing down on her third try, then tried to flip the cup.

Which took seven attempts this time due to the spluttering.

Steve was trying so very hard to look patient but Thor was ahead of them and oh, it was going to be hell in the Tower tonight...

He slammed back the new shot and missed his flip while aspirating on the damn cicada husk in the drink. Second time worked better! "Gogogogo!"

Steph was, mercifully, not privy to the narrative, or she might have had some bratty things to say about dudes and their competitiveness. Never mind that she had a pretty vicious one of her own.

Anyway, she was too busy almost spilling the third shot on herself in her rush to slam it back to say anything.

"Shit, that's revolting but damn, does it have a kick," she mumbled, failing miserably at her first cup flip -- which bonked her in the nose -- before she got it to make two perfect rotations in the air and land neatly on its rim.

"Yes! Go!"

"This is vile," Steve said, picking up his last cup and visibly steeling himself.

"I know, man." Steph sounded distinctly tipsy now. "Real creatively sadistic energy that guy has. Almost gotta respect it. Oh god I'm gonna regret this later."

"I'm regretting this now," Steve said, picking up his final cup. "Oh God, a fly landed in this too."
