It was not just you, it was a little buggy in the park this morning. Welcome, everyone, to Anakin Skywalker's Salute to Cicadas themed game today!

You were probably not nearly as thrilled about it as Cal and Arden, who'd helped set up said theme. Ohhhh, it was gonna be great!*

"Welcome!" Anakin called out as people arrived. "Today we will have only two teams led by Cal and Arden." Their shirts might be a clue about what ~~horrors~~ fun awaited you! "There is a fascinating scientific event happening on this continent right now, and while it is not impacting us fully, I believe we should embrace learning about the fascinating cicada, which has any number of useful traits."

He smiled. "For instance, did you know that it's extremely nutritious?"

Anakin, why are you like this.

"We will begin with a relay race and end with a game of skill!" Was Flip Cup really a game of skill? Guess we'll find out! "Listen for your names! You may not use your powers."

"Okay," Gray said as he unlaced his Chucks, "I figure the faster we do this, the faster it'll be over, right? Like eating a frog!"

A) WTF is that simile, Gray? and also B) It was probably a good thing he had been asleep too much lately to know anything about Arden's role in their current situation.

"I don't know if I want an explanation for that or not," Arden said, also kicking her shoes off and making preemptive grossed out faces at the thought of running across the cicada shells she had so painstakingly put down. "Goddess, why is the Dean like this?"

"It builds character?" Gray suggested. "It could be worse!" He wasn't going to say how, so as not to give Anakin ideas.

Arden gave a Don't you do it--! look as soon as Gray mentioned it being worse, but relaxed once it was clear he wasn't going to explain how. "I'm really, really sorry about this," she said instead, her foot already finding a carcass and making her cringe.

Eugh. "Hurry, hurry, hurry!" Gray encouraged her, surely the only time one would hear Sloth espousing such sentiments. "You've got nothing--ew--to be sorry--gross--for! This is all Dean Skywalker!" And Gray's brother had been an accomplice.

"It's all my--" You know, why confess your complicity when you could run through cicada carcasses instead? "Goddess, they're crunching under my--THAT ONE WAS A SQUISHY ONE!!"

This was hell.

"Run faster! Why are there so many of them?!" Yes, Arden, why were there?

"Because the Dean is a sadist!" Arden replied. Which was true, if also missing out on some pertinent details. "And I'm trying to run faster but also, I don't want to fall in cicada corpses!"

She wasn't usually a finicky bug girl. BUT THIS WAS TERRIBLE.

"Yeah, let's definitely not--gross that one squished gross gross--definitely not do that!" Gray, you've been covered in demon guts before.

That didn't make this better! The damage was psychological!

"So unless we wanna turn this into an awkward carry...?" Then she was running as best she could, Gray! She was only a baby Elemental, not a nephilim!
