Arden's shift this week was pretty short, considering she had detention that would bleed into Shenanigans this week. It seemed like all she had time to do was pull a few books to fulfill a library order and hesitantly hover outside Mr. Constantine's door for a few awkward minutes to talk about the potential for an extra shift before running off to see what deranged thing the Dean had waiting for her and Cal.

After her morning run and a shower, Kamala appeared in the library with her Red Squishy and a spare Squishy for Arden.

"If I get chosen to shenanigan today I might die. Please say nice things at my funeral," Kamala said wearily as she placed Arden's Squishy on the library counter.

"I will say that you're a true friend who deserves better," Arden said, happily taking the Squishy. "And that perhaps your passing could have been averted with the love of a hot, blonde superhero."

A pause.

"Also, why do you look like you're already dying?"

Well if she wasn't dying from going from exercise, the flush on her cheeks might say she'd be dying of embarrassment right now.

"Uh. I. Um. Went for a run this morning," she said, trying very much to ignore the 'hot blonde superhero' comment. "I was reminded that I need to get back into conditioning."

"By who? You do? For what?" Arden asked. "And what kind of run?"

"It was a 5k," Kamala replied as she stretched a bit. "Carol gave me an excercise program to follow. You know. Hero. Kind of have to be in good physical shape for that. My mother reminds me every week and Bruno did last week. I feel every step right now."

"Oh god, that sounds awful," Arden said, grimacing.

And thought about it. And grimaced harder. And thought about it more. And grimaced even harder.

"Want company sometimes?"

"You do not need to join me on this path to fitness," Kamala laughed. "Especially since it's my thing. I won't say no though! If you're up for it. It doesn't have to be the entire time."

"So I've taken a couple of self-defense courses since I got here, but even when they teach me how to punch, I've still got noodle arms, you know? And I don't just wanna get stronger, but faster and more conditioned, I guess?"

So that when the Duskwatch came for her, she had a fighting chance.

And also great abs. One couldn't overlook the importance of abs.

"I'm never gonna be a superhero or a Jedi or whatever else is running around the island, but I don't wanna be helpless either."

No one is truly helpless when they have the power of sass, Arden. Oh, and friends too.

“Cool! We can do core conditioning and stuff on the roof tomorrow if you’re not doing anything.”

"Only suffering apparently," Arden laughed. "But no, Thursday are my class-free days."
