This Sh*t is Bananas; Tuesday, Third Period [06/04].

There were three cloches in front of Summer at the start of the class today, which meant you were all definitely in for some real treats, right? But there was also a print-out ready to go on each station, wherein the students would discover three recipes as a preview for what they were in for this time.

"Hey, everyone," she said cheerfully. "Welcome back. Today, we're literally taking a page from this 1970s book called Be Bold With Bananas, published by the Banana Control Board in South Africa, with an absolutely brilliantly avant garde cover that really makes an enticing case for how delicious these fruits are when done up in terrible ways. We're sticking with some more savory recipes, and we're focusing today on three incredible recipes that make it clear that, when you think bananas, you should also thing pigs.

"But there's got to be something to it, right? Let's find out. Today, if you're feeling ambitious, you can try a couple of the recipes, but I want you to at least try one: we have a nice pork cutlet and banana bake, essentially a banana with a sausage in the middle of it, and the bananas and ham recipe on the list is very much like the bananas and hollandaise we've already covered, but, since it's on the page and also includes a little bit about a cheese sauce to put over your bananas and ham, I figured we could have some fun with that.

"And, of course, while we're working on these and trying them, we can speculate about the thought process, if they surprisingly work out well, what you might have done differently, so on and so forth, to make it feel like this is actually a learning experience and not just gawking at what poor things have been done to the banana in the past."

If this was the sort of thing endorsed by the Banana Control Board what would it take for them to not promote a recipe?

The pork cutlet one seemed less odd than the others, somehow, so Stark was starting there.

Steve was halfway through stuffing sausages into bananas to wrap bacon around when stopped to really think about his life choices.

No regrets!

These actually seemed perfectly fine to Hannibal, if a bit pedestrian.

He'd be adjusting the spices to make them more interesting.

Would banana chips work in nachos? What if things expanded to include plantains?

"I'm impressed each week that you find these recipes and frightening jello," Stark told her.

He just hoped there wouldn't be sausage-stuffed bananas encased in jello tomorrow.

"It's very very unnecessary," Stark agreed. "But if none of them were I'd be concerned. There are better ways to eat bacon."

There were better ways to eat all these things, Stark.

"But also worse ones, i think."

"On a cheeseburger," Stark said quickly. "Or just with eggs, for breakfast."

"Please don't do something terrible to cheeseburgers and eggs because I answered you."

"I'll take you out for a burger?" Stark offered showing absolutely no remorse.

They'd known each other a long time now. He knew what happened to food ideas around here.

He reached out a hand, grinning at her.

"Not if you aren't the one cooking it," he said. "You'll save terrible things for later when I'm not expecting them. "

Stark bowed his head then. He knew when he'd been beaten.

"If you promise to protect me if the staff there try to kill me," he said with a sigh.

"Thank you."

Look, it was just nice to have that confirmation.

"We could get burgers to go?" Stark said. "I'm sure his are very good."

Maybe if Summer ordered and didn't mention Stark's name at all? He could pay though!
