"Right," Steve said, pulling on his protective paintball jumpsuit as he talked, "today we've made the course substantially more difficult."

Since ~~most~~ some of you took this a little seriously. "There are more traps around the area that will trigger paint buckets to fall on you. So the course itself is also trying to eliminate you, as well as your fellow players."

"So, hopefully it'll prove to be a challenge on your level," Tony added. "Hopefully."

Look, they were doing their best with you crazy people.

"You also can't use your powers any longer," Steve said, arching his eyebrow at Anakin.

"So please be respectful of your classmates." Tony knew that was a fool's errand, but still.

"Wait! We could have used powers?!" Kamala complained. "No fair!"

Arden nudged her. "Yeah," she said. "To the powerless people."

Kamala sighed and handed Arden one of the red Squishies she got at T&C for her. "Yeah, but I could have had more fun in this class before now," she whined. "Stupid Jedi cheaters."

Arden beamed at her and took the Squishy. Aww yeah, Red, best flavor.

"Jedi are major cheaters, it is known," she agreed, certainly loud enough to be overheard by at least the ginger one.

...Hopefully not the Dean tho.

"They really should be disqualified going forward," Kamala agreed as she slurped her squishy.

"If they use their unfair cheaty Force powers," Arden agreed. "Although it does mean us mere mortals get to preen extra hard when we kick their ass."

Not that she was thinking of any Jedi in particular.

Oh, no. Not at all.

"It's hard to preen though when you get paint in your hair," Kamala pointed out. "I assume you have another dinner bet going on with a certain someone?"

"It's a standing bet," Arden said. "We agreed the first two were a wash, then last week was cancelled for Memorial Day, so the stakes are really high for this one." She paused. "Oooh, steaks."

Possible dinner idea? Since she was avoiding Cafe Fina now. For non-gremlin related reasons, even!

"So does the cost of the dinner go up with each passing week?" Kamala asked. "Or is it just whatever the other person wants. And if you're going for steak make sure it's the place where you can get the deep fried onion blossom."

"Nah, it's just whatever we feel like eating at the time," Arden said. "And it's not barbeque, but you can't go wrong with a nice steak. But...deep-fried onion blossom? Like onion rings?"

"Oh no, it's like... hold on," Kamala said and just pulled out her phone to show a picture of one. "So technically like an onion ring but you eat the flower like petals."

"Oh shit I need that in my mouth yesterday," Arden said, wide-eyed. "...Wait, I should have phrased that better. Ha! I'm the one doing radio tomorrow! Safe!"

We all know what you want in your mouth, Arden.

"What's wrong with that phrasing?" Kamala asked, innocently.

Exception: Kamala does not know.

Yes. She wants a blooming onion, thank you. Fried onion petals. Also steak. She has listed them out very clearly in previous pings.

"Oh goddess," she muttered. "Please tell me you're fucking around?"

She was not prepared for this conversation, especially at paintball.

"What are you, ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Never mind."

It took her a moment to catch up. And now that she did there was blushing and clearing of the throat.

"So is there a steakhouse on the island?"

Yes. Change of conversation please.

"Just phrasing, Kamala! It was just phrased badly!" Oh goddess, now they were both flailing and blushy. "Yes! Outback! Boardwalk! Near Midnight!"

"Uh, there was a 'Never mind' and a change of topic," Kamala said holding up her hands. "There's no need to dwell on it."

There was now a swishing of hands to the left to move the awkwardness to the side. If that were physically possible.

"Ooooh! I forgot about that place," she said definitely on a new topic of conversation. "That's good! It's a short walk and less weird things can happen."

Then again, knowing Cal & Arden they'd probably trip through a portal and Cal would end up pregnant with Arden's child.

Yes, you read that right.

Thank the goddess Arden had no idea where Kamala's mind had gone or there would be even more flailing. "There are just a bunch of good places to eat," she said, happily continuing on with this thread of conversation. "Maybe I'm just biased because of the Sushi Station and Taste of Thai, though."

"Both of those sound good," Kamala said and then sighed. "This conversation is making me extremely hungry for take out."

"Lunch?" Arden suggested. "I've got third and fourth period off, we could snag lunch somewhere?"

"I've got my internship to go to after this," Kamala said regretfully. "Such is the life of an active businesswoman of tomorrow."

"You still did well anyway," Cal pointed out. "But some people ruin the fun."

Was he glancing over at Anakin? No, because that would be rude and he'd gotten into enough trouble already.

"Yes. They do," Kamala agreed as she handed over the red squishy she bought earlier for Cal.

Despite the fact he had taken blame for the climbing incident instead of letting Arden do it.

"And I did do pretty well without using them. I guess facing off against Kree warriors paid off somehow."

"Ooh, what's this for?" Cal asked, taking a sip. The joyful taste of red squishy washed over him, and for a moment, everything felt like it would be okay. "Kree warriors sound like something fun to fight."

"Not so much at the time but luckily we had a cat that ate most of them," Kamala said with a shrug. "And I was at T&C earlier so I got one for you and Arden."

You know. Like a normal friend.
