Once again, because Navaan's students were the absolute luckiest, they were meeting in town to catch a portal back to Navaan's world. "I hope you have your bags and your leeches," she announced as soon as they were gathered. "Because today we're going to actually start doctoring! I'm friends with these monks and I take care of them. I even killed a god to keep my little guys safe, so a few ground rules. Rule one: These guys are important to me, so take this very seriously. I want to see everyone's A-games, you got that? Rule two: These are my patients. I'm letting you help them because you're my students, but absolutely no poaching. You can get your own patients on your own time. Rule three: Okay, I forget rule three, but I'm sure it's important and I'll tell you as soon as I remember it. Don't break it anyway, you've been warned."

She glared at the class, making sure that they saw she was very, very serious. "Now, when we get to them, you're each gonna get a monk, you'll diagnose the issue, and then we'll discuss what we think the best treatment is." The portal opened behind her and she gestured her students through. "Oh! Right! I remember Rule Three!"

When the students stepped through the portal, they'd see a brilliant circus under the night sky. Lanterns and torches provided light, there were people teeming everywhere, with barkers crying out games, wares, and sideshows. "The third rule is..." Navaan began as she stepped out from the portal. Then she stopped, staring in fascination at the circus.

"Why didn't anyone tell me this was on?" she asked, before running pell-mell towards the big top. "Let's go, guys! We're going to the circus!"

"...You killed a god?"

Okay, Arthur was actually a bit impressed by that.

"Its cultists were kidnapping my little guys and sacrificing them to it," Navaan said. "And I had to stop that. My monks are important to me."

"I...actually, that sounds very good of you," Arthur said, a bit surprised.

Badass, John added.

Arthur sighed. "John says it sounds badass."

"I am really badass," Navaan said with a shrug. "On you if you didn't know that."

She'd fought a giant battle in the park and everything!

"You think sex is the answer to everything," Arthur countered.

He paused.

"You killed the god with sex, didn't you."

"Nope!" Navaan said. "I threw a fake death at it. It was a God of Fakes so that was like getting hit with a real death and so it died."

Now don't you feel stupid about your assumptions, Arthur?

"I hate that that makes sense."

He did, a little. Also embarrassed. But look, it was a logical assumption!

Just like...don't ask her if that was why she threw it, okay?

"I'm very smart," she informed him. "Which is why I get to be a doctor."

"You think refrigerators are acceptable beds."

No, he was never letting that go.

"I like to be up high and curled up," Navaan said. "Also, the tops of refrigerators are warm. Why is sleeping on the couch so much better than sleeping on top of a refrigerator?"

Huh. She has a point, Arthur.

"Because a couch is furniture designed for sitting or sleeping," Arthur said firmly. "Refrigerators are only for keeping food in."

"So?" Navaan said. "See, that's your problem. You let yourself get bullied by people who aren't even here. Who cares why somebody designed something or what it's for. I'm gonna use it how I wanna use it. You're so worried by what people you've never even met might think about you, you don't do anything fun."

"I do have fun!" Protested the man who had gotten married due to societal expectations.

He facepalmed. "I can't believe we're having this argument again."

Last time it ended in sex, John pointed out. You should probably stop now. Look, it hadn't exactly been fun for him, had it?

"You don't really," Navaan said. "Because you let yourself be bulled by dead people. Who aren't even ghosts! They're just dead!"

Arthur winced. "I...no, I."

Uh, Arthur?

Pardon Arthur while he tried desperately not to reboot from trauma.

"Do too."

"No! I...I can't!" The only thing keeping Arthur from curling up in a ball and sobbing was his pride (and the fact he couldn't see where a dark corner might be).

Sorry, Navaan, you broke him.

She peered at him. "Are you...trying not to cry?"
