Anakin was feeling particularly inspired today, which was why when people arrived for Shenanigans (or made their ill-advised way through the park not realizing it was a Wednesday), they would find a baseball field set up between the playground and the pond. The bleachers had been placed around it so everyone could live out their sudden need to watch a baseball game! The only tiny, tiny problem with this set-up? Anakin had absolutely no idea how baseball worked. Yes, he'd lived on Earth for twenty years. Yes, he'd married a person from Earth. But really, if you looked at Rory and thought "now there's a sports fan," well, that's entirely your mistake.

The field was correct--home plate, pitchers mound, three bases in a diamond--but everything else would get a little haywire. It was Shenanigans, you couldn't expect otherwise, could you?

"Welcome to Shenanigans!" Anakin yelled through the as-always unnecessary bullhorn. "Today we shall be divided into two baseball teams! Instead of shirts, you shall be receiving mascot outfits! I understand that is the real reason to attend a baseball game! Listen for your names, change into your baseball outfits--" sure, Anakin, go with that, "--and then I will explain the rules!"

This would go great.

[Everyone gets two chance chance to bat! Either mod your pitch or write your ping to encourage Team Choppy to pitch at you! Get to a base! If you hit the ball, fruit, or rubber chicken into the pond, it's a home run.

The RNG says you score 15 runs, I care not how that happens. (This was clearly quite the defensive game.) If nine of you run home at the same time, go for it!]

...if only he was facing the correct direction.

Dean rushed out to the batter's box and attempted to spin Beaker around. "Wrong way buddy."

"Meep mee!" Beaker said, spinning and getting dangerously close to Dean's mascotty head with that bat.

And that would be a clonk to the head. Dean pulled herself off the ground and just sighed as she walked away. "Yeah, okay. Just hit whatever is thrown at you."

Dean just stood at home plate, holding the bat like she would rather hit someone with it than hit the ball.

This wasn't exactly living out Steve's childhood fantasies of being a Dodger but he was up on the pitching mound anyway. He reached into the basket at his feet and pulled out an apple. "Sure," he said. "This makes as much sense as anything else. Ready?" he called to the cabbage lighthouse before him.

Dean pushed back the mask a bit to take a swig from the flask. "Just throw the apple, Rogers," Dean called back. "This is barely a sport."

"We're gonna get haunted by the vengeful ghost of Babe Ruth!" Steve agreed, throwing the apple.

Dean gave a one handed swing at the apple and just watched it splat on the ground. "Effing red delicious," Dean grunted but managed to get a base hit out of it.

Rey also had no idea how baseball worked. Literally never seen a sports game that wasn't maybe on in the background somewhere.

So there she was with a bat in her mascot costume, somehow still looking unimpressed.

"Hey, batter, batter," Steve said, grinning and reaching for a...rubber chicken. Sure, Anakin. Desecrate the national sport. "Batter up!"

And he threw the chicken, which flew...less well.

"What does that even mean!" Rey called, muffled by a mascot costume, and there was no way she was hitting that.... chicken.

She was however gonna pick it up with the Force and yeet it past second base.

And Rey was running for first because it seemed like that was the right direction? She did not know the rules.

Thor, in his extremely dignified cabbage-lighthouse costume, stepped up to the plate with full dignity and brandished the wiffle bat like it was the mighty Mjolnir.

"Verily, pitcher!" he called. "Do your worst!"

"Prithee and forthwith!" Navaan called back, not knowing what any of those words meant! But hey, she was throwing the first thing that came to hand. Mostly at Thor, though, and the narrative will be nice and assume it was because the mascot head was huge.
