Office hours/Archaeology

Daniel had stuck a note on the classroom door directing any archaeology students who turned up to find him in his office if they needed him.

Having sent his letter of acceptance off yesterday afternoon, he was now listing what needed to be done before he went.

He also had Expedia open on his computer.

"Oh, yes. Very much yes." She plunked herself into a chair and hung her head into her hands. "And I forgot about my ACJ final, so I have no idea what I wrote."

"Me, Janet, and Liz hopped up on coffee and sugar? You're lucky the apartment is still standing." She chuckled, then winced again. "Also? I think the fingerpaint is water washable."

Daniel reached over the desk and patted her gently on the shoulder. "I'm sure it was fine," he said reassuringly. "You're worst is a hell of a lot better than many people's best."

He nodded, with feeling. "I know," he said. "Where did you disappear to that afternoon?"

"Thanks. Here's hoping Professor Tick thought so." She looked up and smiled at him. "I helped Anakin Skywalker build a podracer out of a golf cart and some random parts we found in the junkyard. Then he, Peter Parker, Rory Gilmore, and I took turns flying it. It was amazing," she chuckled, "but god, was I filthy afterwards."

Daniel laughed. "You were pretty filthy when you left, " he pointed off. "I'm kinda glad I didn't see you later."

"Add engine grease and half the dust in Fandom and you'll have a pretty accurate picture," she grinned, "So, what are you up to? Finals, grading, all that stuff?"

"I'm waiting for most of their final projects to come in still, actually," Daniel said. He looked down at his list. "This is me preparing for summer."

"Preparing? Why, what's going on?" Sam took off her sunglasses and looked at him. "Daniel?"

He shuffled uncomfortably in his seat. "I got offered a place on an excavation," he said. "And I accepted it."

Oh. Sam blinked at him. "Where?"

"Egypt," he said quietly, looking down at his desk.

"That's great, Daniel," she smiled slightly at him, even if she didn't understand exactly why he needed to go to Egypt when he already knew exactly what had happened to the Egyptians, and why. "I'm happy for you. Really."

Daniel looked up at her. "Thanks, Sam. I wouldn't go, only I really need this break opportunity."

"I'll miss you."

"I'll miss you too," he said. "But it's not like I'm disappearing to another galaxy. I'll write, and call."

"E-mail, too." Sam doubted he would, though. She knew how Daniel was when he got involved in a project. "Please tell me you'll remember to eat at least once a day?"

"Yes, that too. Although I'm not sure what internet access they'll be," Daniel said. He nodded solemnly. "I promise."

"Are you coming back for the wedding?" she asked, picking at a loose thread on the chair. "I know they'd want you there."

"The date's already in my diary. Third weekend in June, right? I don't even want to consider what Sam would do to me if I wasn't!"

"Is that when it is?" She shifted in her seat and put her sunglasses back on. Because it was suddenly much brighter in Daniel's office. Yes. "I didn't get an invitation."

"According to Ja... oh."

"He doesn't know. About me, I mean."

"He doesn't?" Daniel frowned. "I didn't know that."

Sam nodded carefully. "He wouldn't have let me, her, do it, if he'd known. So I, she, talked to the Asgard after Eighth escaped." She shrugged, "since I haven't gotten a phone call, I assume she hasn't told him. When I went to Colorado, I stayed with Teal'c."

"Oh. Well, you have my word that he won't hear about it from me," Daniel promised.

"Thanks." She sighed and ran a hand through her hair. "Y'know, being six was kind of cool. I forgot how tough it is being a grown-up. Especially a teenage grown-up."
