Office hours/Archaeology

Daniel had stuck a note on the classroom door directing any archaeology students who turned up to find him in his office if they needed him.

Having sent his letter of acceptance off yesterday afternoon, he was now listing what needed to be done before he went.

He also had Expedia open on his computer.

"I'll miss you too," he said. "But it's not like I'm disappearing to another galaxy. I'll write, and call."

"E-mail, too." Sam doubted he would, though. She knew how Daniel was when he got involved in a project. "Please tell me you'll remember to eat at least once a day?"

"Yes, that too. Although I'm not sure what internet access they'll be," Daniel said. He nodded solemnly. "I promise."

"Are you coming back for the wedding?" she asked, picking at a loose thread on the chair. "I know they'd want you there."

"The date's already in my diary. Third weekend in June, right? I don't even want to consider what Sam would do to me if I wasn't!"

"Is that when it is?" She shifted in her seat and put her sunglasses back on. Because it was suddenly much brighter in Daniel's office. Yes. "I didn't get an invitation."

"According to Ja... oh."

"He doesn't know. About me, I mean."

"He doesn't?" Daniel frowned. "I didn't know that."

Sam nodded carefully. "He wouldn't have let me, her, do it, if he'd known. So I, she, talked to the Asgard after Eighth escaped." She shrugged, "since I haven't gotten a phone call, I assume she hasn't told him. When I went to Colorado, I stayed with Teal'c."

"Oh. Well, you have my word that he won't hear about it from me," Daniel promised.

"Thanks." She sighed and ran a hand through her hair. "Y'know, being six was kind of cool. I forgot how tough it is being a grown-up. Especially a teenage grown-up."

"Well, I for one am very thankful you're all no longer six," Daniel said. "Life is hard, you know that already. But honestly? Wouldn't you be bored if it was all just a walk in the park?"

"I wouldn't mind having it as an occasional point of comparison," she said, dryly.

"I'm sure some things must be easy. How about classes?"

"Good, for the most part," Sam hedged. Oh hell, she might as well tell Daniel--it wasn't like she hadn't repeatedly trusted him with her life. "Mac kissed me yesterday."

Daniel blinked.

And then blinked again.

"Mac as in the teacher, Mac?"

Mac as in the one who looks almost exactly like Jack?

"Yes. Which, considering I woke up in his bed yesterday morning? Not as bad as it could have been."

Daniel unfortunately chose that exact moment to take a mouthful of coffee.

"You what?" he exclaimed, grasping for tissues. "Oh, you wait until I see that man again..."

Sam grabbed a handful of tissues and wiped off her arm. "It was completely innocent, Daniel. Relax. I had a nightmare while I was still little, and it was too late and dark to go to your apartment, so I went to his room. When I woke up the next morning, I was...big." She shrugged. "I mean, it's not like I'm not older than he is, technically."

"Still. Very, very awkward. Especially when he had to tie me up for the final."

"I know that, and you know that. But he doesn't!" Daniel said, flailing as he went into OverProtective Mode.

He drank again to try and calm himself down and instead choked. "Tie you up for the final?" he asked. "What sort of sick, kinky final was this?!"

Sam couldn't help laughing. "It was just a kiss, Daniel. He did tell me to come find him when I was twenty, though." She may have smirked a little at that.

"Ow. Ow, ow, ow," she said, clutching her head as she laughed, "we were each tied to a chair and had to get ourselves out of a bank vault, using only regular tools and household cleaners. Ask Charlie."

"And when you're twenty he'll be how old?" Daniel demanded.

Daniel calmed down. Slightly. "Nothing weird went on when he tied you up? He didn't try to," he flailed slightly. ""Y'know? Take advantage of the situation? Put his hands where he shouldn't have done?"

Sam shrugged, "Mid-thirties, maybe? I never asked him how old he was. Besides, I turn 'eighteen' next week, so it's only two years from now."

"No, nothing freaky happened, no advantage taking," she said, laughing hard now, "and his hands were in appropriate places at all times. So my virtue, such as it is, is safe."

Daniel looked down and shook his head slightly. "Sorry for freaking out on you," he said. "I forget even though you are young, you're not that young, if you get what I mean?"

He nodded firmly, and finally drank a mouthful off coffee successfully. "Good," he said. "I'd hate to have to bring Teal'c all the way out here to deal with him if not."
