"You know what, guys?" Summer asked at the start of the class, with that grin on her face that you should be pretty used to by now. "You wanna know what I want to talk about this week? Meat."

Oh, this should go well.

Stark sighed, looked upward for a moment, and then sighed again as he looked back at Summer. “I was hoping this day wouldn't come.” No, he didn’t actually look at all upset about it. The protests were mostly just for show at this point.

"Now, there's a lot to be said about mixing a little savory with your sweet," Summer continued, "and I'm sure some people would argue that, when you start adding meat to your cupcakes, where's the line before they cross over into being muffins? That could actually be an interesting point of discussion, so if you've got opinions on it, I'd love to hear 'em, but, if you ask me, I think it all comes down to the frosting."

“Cupcakes need frosting,” Stark agreed. “And muffins don't have any. Of course, cupcakes are meant to be sweet and not meaty.” Alas, it was too late to get out of the meat now.

"And I actually went a little overboard in making examples to inspire you guys, too," Summer admitted, almost a little sheepishly, but, come on, when would she ever feel embarrassed about doing more weird foods to foist on people? "But I've got one that has bacon, two variations of chicken cupcakes, and, of course, meatloaf."

“Meatloaf and cupcake are two words that do not go together,” Stark said plaintively. “So are chicken and cupcake.”

"Well, I'm glad the bacon, at least, is acceptable!" Summer beamed happily. "What other meats might be acceptable? Let's find out!"

“Bacon is special,” Stark said. “It can go with anything.” He was almost certainly going to regret having said that, someday.

Maybe he just ought to be grateful Summer hadn't found anything with brains in it or something equally horrifying.

Hold your breath either hoping or dreading what sorts of meats Summer plans on bringing into this cupcake class, and voice your thoughts for the cupcake v muffin debate, if you've got 'em!

How can you incorporate meat into your cupcakes and still have them be considered cupcakes, horrific or otherwise?

"What if we use glazed ham pieces?" Anakin asked. "Don't people use soda for that?"

"That seems better than meatloaf," Stark said, glancing over at Summer. "It won't be worse, in any case."

"And maybe add a can of fruit cocktail, too."

Anakin, why.

"Why would you do that, Anakin?" Stark asked giving him a generous amount of side-eye.

Sometimes he just liked to watch the world burn, Stark.

"Fruit goes with ham, right?"

"... it can," Stark allowed. "But should it in this case?"

"There's only one way to find out," Anakin said, embracing the vibe of the course.

"Anakin." Stark sighed and shook his head. "I don't think you should spend any more time around Summer."

"I think you're jealous that I'm such an excellent student."

"I am not jealous of you," Stark protested. "Why would I be?"

"My incredible baking skills," Anakin said, nodding. "And my hair."

And the modesty.

"You don't have incredible baking skills. You have the idea to put ham in a cupcake with fruit from a can."

You were getting such a look, Anakin.

"You do have nice hair. I suppose."

Stark could have nice hair if he ever tried to grow it out again.

"I'm a visionary and visonaries are never appreciated," Anakin decided.

"I appreciate Summer's visions," Stark countered.

"She made a meatloaf cupcake," Anakin noted.

"It's expected from her," Stark said as if that made it better.

Plus he was kind of hopelessly in love here, Anakin. Sorry.

Anakin. Yes.

Summer might not ever be able to bring herself to give Anakin Fucking Skywalker heart eyes, but damn, if she wasn't at least overhearing this exchange with an overflowing pride and a barely contained snicker.

Anakin, no. Summer, no!

Stark sighed and gave her a pleading look. They were ganging up on him!

Nevermind that he was going to offer up a recipe involving bologna buttercream shortly.

About putting meat in things…wait, maybe not.

Look, there wasn't even any bologna or hot dogs involved in any of these cupcakes, Summer was clearly being nice this week.

Showing off a weird recipe had worked out last week so Stark handed over his phone with something gross on the screen.

Then he just grinned.

Summer took a moment to look at Stark and that grin on his face,then looked at his phone a little dubiously, before looking back at him as she took the phone from him so she could really see what he was showing her.

"Ohmygod," she said, as she read and scrolled a little. "With lime? Are you kidding me?"

Stark was looking very pleased with himself as he took in Summer's reaction.

"I thought you might enjoy that one. Since it was gross."

"These do sound incredibly gross," Summer agreed, with a very approving tone, "but I think the most disgusting thing about them is the lack of presentation. Look at how SAD they look!"

Yes, Summer, he had seen them, you were showing him his own phone now.

"Talk about a missed opportunity! Do a little twist of pickle, a little squiggle of mustard and ketchup, a dusting of Wonderbread crumbs....just give me something, jeez."

"I'm sure you can make them your own if you try," Stark told her. He was grinning in spite of how horrifying those additions sounded.

"I would expect nothing less from you. What's wonder bread?"

Stark was going to add one small piece of candied bacon to his cupcakes as a garnish and that was it.
