Phys Ed; Thursday, First Period [12/21].

When the class came into the gym that morning, they'd find Gladio ready to go with a large red rubber ball in his hands. "You know," he said, "when I do these gym classes, I kind of like to do dodgeball for the last class, but, well, since it's almost Christmas, it seemed a little too far removed from the holiday spirit and I've decided we'll go with a less cutthroat final class instead."

Besides, this was quite possibly one of the less cutthroat classes he'd ever had. Unless you got Nell worked up into the right headspace, anyway.

"So we're doing some kickball instead. Obviously, there's not enough of us to really do teams, so we'll just take turns as pitcher and kicker and various field positions, and hopefully just have a good time for our last class. I'll go over the basics and the rules and how to play while you guys start getting stretched out, we'll do a quick lap around the gym to get out blood pumping, and then it's game on."

Some of the instructions and rules are slightly modified to make it work for a class this size, but it's time to get warmed up and ready to go and ask questions if you've got any before it's time to get going.

There's plenty of time in class to get a lot of rotation between kickers, pitchers, and outfielders, with Gladio thrown into the mix, too, because it would just be sad to not get to join in and really get the scrambling around the gym after he kicked the ball.

It took Nell a bit to get the hang of this, but once she did she was all in!

Jon was a bit winded after the warm-up lap, though not as much as he would have been before this class! But suffice it to say, he wasn't winning any kickball contests.

Because obviously he'd there if anyone should want to see him after class for whatever reason!

And there was Nell at the end of it all, waiting patiently with a little smile on her face.

And there was Gladio, with the red ball back in his hand after collecting it once class was over, maybe giving it a few performative bounces, kicks, and dribbles before finally tucking it under his arm as he made it over to where Nell was waiting.

"Hey," he said. "Nice work out there."

Sure, he always said that. But it was also always true! Even if she wasn't good at whatever they ended up doing, Nell still always gave it her all.

Nell smiled at him. "It was fun." She reached out to take the ball from him and set it down before stretching up to kiss him, then tugging on his hand to urge him to sit down with her. "This is better."

Nell definitely didn't need to tug very hard at all to convince Gladio, especially not when there was a kiss thrown into the mix as well. "Yeah," he agreed, as he settled in, with another kiss thrown in for good measure in a grin, "but I don't think a class built around that's gonna be nearly as fun for the other students."

"Nope," Nell said, snuggling into him. "It would have to be just me in the class. Though in any case just kissing might not be enough for your syllabus."

"I don't know," Gladio hedged, with a faint snort and a smirk on his face, leaning back a little in a way the hopefully made for more comfortable snuggling in, as well as a little snuggling back with his head ducked toward Nell's, nuzzling just a bit into her hair, "there's still a lot to with there...even with just kissing."

As he was pretty sure he didn't need to tell her by now...

"Mmmm..." she said, taking advantage of the leaning back to get even closer. "There definitely is. But I think I'm ready to add in some other things. I know I am actually."

She glanced up at him so she wouldn't miss anything on his face. "So... what are you doing after class?"

Gladio shifted again, just slightly, so that he could look at Nell looking up at him. It lingered, carefully, to make sure he wasn't missing anything or misconstruing or just projecting anything of his own feelings into her words.

But what he found there was exactly as he should have expected, exactly as she said, and he smiled, faintly, softly.

"Spending time with you," he said, "hopefully."

"Making love to me hopefully," Nell said with a gentle smile.

Well, there was hardly anything to be misconstrued there, and Gladio liked to think that Nell wouldn't just tease him over a thing like that. Nothing there in her face to indicate she was joking, either, so he felt his own smile tug into more of a grin, and his eyebrow lifted.

"Yeah?" he asked, his deep voice balanced between an open expression hopeful ancipation and just wanting to be sure. "You think so?"

"Well, I hope so," she said, letting him see the certainty in her eyes. "That's what I'd like anyway."

"Well, then," Gladio replied, "that definitely makes both of us."

Which was pretty fucking important in this sort of thing, if you asked him, and just to assure Nell of his own certainty (ha) in the matter, he lifted a hand to brush across her cheek a moment before leaning in with a kiss that wouldn't leave even a shadow of a doubt.

"So we should probably get heading on out of here, huh?" he asked, pulling back just enough to say so.

And then there was the barest of beats before he added, with a grin, "Unless you wanted to just stay right here on the mats."

He didn't think the school would approve, but he'd definitely run that risk.

Nell had to catch her breath after that kiss.

Then she laughed and blushed. "Not here! My bed is much more comfortable."

She collected herself enough to stand even though that kiss had left her legs a little wobbily. "Off we go then."

Look, there were wars at my school over who got to the kickball pitch first during recess...

True story. I was bullied a lot in elementary school and in third grade the other girls wanted nothing to do with me (largely due to bullying by my two teachers and therefore tacit approval for the kids to do the same). So, at recess I was rather at loose ends. A bunch of boys played football everyday and since they were generally nicer than the girls I asked to play with them - and was met with a resounding refusal. Which a teacher heard and told them they had to let me play.

They were not happy, but allowed it reluctantly. And then they discovered three things. One, I could run really fast (and weave). Two, I could catch. Three, no one would dare tackle me because I was a girl and I was very tiny so they knew the teachers would have a fit. Which meant that if they could get the ball to me they were guaranteed a touchdown.

So, for the first and only time in my life, I was picked first for a team every day. It was a glorious month or two.
