Rube Goldberg and You, Wednesday, October 25, 2023

Despite have a good thick handful of rewards memberships, high-interest credit cards, and an appointment to hear about a timeshare in Boca, Beaker was still being followed around by a smallish herd of TV-headed salespeople.

This sort of explained why he'd snuck into the classroom under a moving box, but it was Beaker. That could've been just a normal Wednesday.

"Meep meep meep meep meep!" he began, projecting a picture of a cartoon version of the TV-headed people onto the wall. "Meep meep meep meep meep!"

And those cartoon people were then electrocuted with a giant toaster, buried in Waffle House hashbrowns, and flung into the ocean with a giant catapult. Beaker had been spitballing ideas all night.

"Meep meep meep mee!" he said, gesturing at all of the stuff in the Danger Shop.

Go nuts, class! Prepare to meet aggressive salespeople with way too much aggression!

"If they're actually electrically based, a good localized EMP should take them out," Miguel noted. "Though if you want something flashier," and more likely to cause fires, but this was Beaker, after all, "maybe something like a water balloon with a point hard enough to get through the glass screen. Just spear them and let loose with the liquid."

"I have schematics for a few very aggressive machine animals," Beta muttered ominously, tapping her Focus, "but I don't think we have the capability to produce them efficiently enough."

Which was probably just as well. On the one hand, Aloy would love having the spare parts on hand. On the other, these were HEPHAESTUS's rogue hunter-killers and not GAIA's benign terraforming machines, and unleashing those a couple of centuries before their time in a world that might not even play out the way theirs did (though it seemed likely) would be imprudent.

Look, she'd had a very upsetting experience with the television head people and honestly, for someone who was as addicted to holos as she was it felt like a very personal betrayal.

"I'm pretty sure Tony Stark could get you anything you need, in the name of science!" Miguel pointed out. "Or if not him, Summer can get just about anything. Well, normally. Depends what her store's turned into this week."

Beta made a thoughtful humming noise.

"Nanotech printers capable of replicating multiple, functional large scale machines?"

Beta, no. As much as the embodiment of capitalism deserved to get stomped by a Slaughterspine, the island literally did not deserve it. Or have the space for it, probably, no matter how many things were crammed onto it this week.

Miguel thought about it. "If Tony doesn't have one, I can probably get a small-scale one and we can rig it to work larger. The problem will be getting enough power and raw material. And room - how large are we talking?"

Miguel, no.
