Political Campaigning (Thursday, April 27, 4th period)

Josh had brought coffee and pizza for the class. The walls were decorated with campaign posters for the three candidates and a phone in the corner was rigged to ring every two minutes.

Add it to the huge, practically sentient pile of papers on Josh's desk and it looked very much like a campaign office.

"Okay, guys," he said, smiling. "Today you get to show me if I've managed to teach you anything at all about campaigning." He sat down in his chair. "Grab some pizza and coffee and demonstrate how your guy is going to be the Senator from Montana come November."

"It won't," Josh replied, "at least not in the current political climate, but it's a nice thought."

"So, um - " Angel thought about saying something about the supposed crush, but then decided silence was the better part of valor there. Instead he moved on to what he really wanted to say. "I wanted to say thanks. For all your help this semester."

"Of course," Josh said, smiling. "It was my pleasure."

"Do you have much experience with California?" Angel asked.

Josh nodded. "Some. Lots of rich Dems out there--I've done my fair share of fundraising gigs out on some B-listers deck." He raised an eyebrow. "Lots of sunshine--isn't that kind of not your thing?"

"There's a night life," Angel said. He put his hands in his coat pockets. "After graduation I'm going back to my dimension. LA. It'd - I'd like it if we could keep in touch." He gave a wry smile. "I got a feeling it'd be helpful to know a guy who's familiar with law and politics."

"Of course!" Josh said, reaching for one of his business cards and scribbling a few numbers on the back.

"The top one's my cell phone, which is always on," he said, pointing. "The bottom one's my friend Sam Seaborn's office number. He's a lawyer out in California right now, but he's one of the good guys. Tell him I told you to call and he'll help you out."

"Thanks," Angel gave a rare smile. He tore a page out of his notebook and wrote down the number and email for his Blackberry. "Here. That'll go cross-dimensions. It'll get to me. I can give you an address once I, you know, have one."

"Can't wait to hear about your adventures," Josh said, taking the paper and putting it carefully away. "Might get in touch come the next presidential election--make sure the undead voters' concerns are being addressed by whoever we run after Bartlet."

He smiled and put out his hand. "It has been a pleasure getting to know you, Angel."

Wow, his actual name!

Angel smiled. He held out a free hand. "Same here, Prof. Lyman."

Josh shook Angel's hand, expression going more serious. "And I really do want to hear what you're up to. I think it's going to be something really important."

"I hope it is," Angel replied, just as serious. "I hope I don't let anybody down."

"If you never need help, just ask," Josh replied. "You know, not for anything with swords because that's not my thing, but..." he shrugged. "Anything else."

"Thanks," Angel said, sincerely. "I will."

"You'll be fine," Josh said firmly. "Good luck in LA."

Angel gathered up his things. "If you ever need a dead guy who is good with a sword - " he nodded at the card he'd given Josh.

"Until I came here, I would've thought that sentence was bizarre," Josh said with a grin.

"Come visit me sometime and I'll introduce you to the demon set," Angel said. "You know, safely. Some of them are like kittens. Not literally. They're taller."

"You promise me no karaoke and I'm there," Josh said. "I'll give you a call the next time I'm in town."

"I can absolutely guarantee no karaoke," Angel said. "Demon or otherwise. Assuming there is an otherwise."

"Which I'm inclined to doubt, personally," Josh replied. He grinned. "It's a thing, then. I'll be sure not to mention it to the pirate."

"Looking forward to it," Angel said. "I'll email once I've found a place. Keep you updated."

Josh made a little shooing gesture. "I'll see you soon, then. Now get out of here."

The smile on his face made it obvious he didn't really mean that statement harshly.
