Josh rapped on the door jamb. "Heard you're leaving us," he said.

"Yeah, heading back to DC to start with. Carol said I could stay with her for a little bit. How about you? Staying on for the summer?"

Josh shook his head. "Lost a bet with Bruno. Have to spend the summer out on a special election in Detroit." He rolled his eyes. "But as long as the seat stays Dem, it's worth it, right? I'll be back in the Fall."

He grinned. "Can't believe that campaigning is going to seem like a vacation."

"Oh, Josh...you know you wouldn't have it any other way. I can't believe you bet against Bruno, though. Did you fall down hard? If you'd called me I could have...no, wait. I couldn't have because you glued my phone down." she said, trying her best to look angry.

"I had a good feeling about the Indiana 3rd. Obviously a mistake," he said. "But I'm allowed one of those every cycle, right?"

He leaned in the doorway and grinned, entirely unrepetant. "You gave the pirate my press conference. One good turn deserves another."

"I actually didn't give it to the pirate. I was helping and it got leaked. What can I say? It happens." she said innocently, "Besides...secret plan? Classic. It could have been your crack to Mary Marsh, you know."

Josh snickered. "Oh, I've never heard of the mighty CJ Cregg leaking anything that she didn't want leaked. So the phone? Totally worth it." He grinned. "Not that I did it. Really."

He scrubbed his hands through his hair. "And Mary totally deserved it."

She stopped dead and stared at him for a minute, "Yes. Yes, she really did. So are you going to the thing? Tomorrow?"

Josh nodded. "I'll be at the thing. I'm finishing up grading this weekend, then on the road for Detroit Monday afternoon."

He raised an eyebrow. "You're going to the thing, too, right?"

"I'd planned on it. Carol's not expecting me til Sunday and I guess my replacement won't be here for a while...so I have time."

She looked up with a wicked grin, "You know, since I have my grades done already."

"Well aren't you special and whatever," Josh said, rolling his eyes. "Government's final isn't until tomorrow and I'm not quite brilliant enough--close, but not quite--to be able to see into the future." He shrugged. "History was yesterday, Campaigning was a couple hours ago. I'll get it done."

"I am special and whatever, thank you for noticing." she said flatly. "How was Campaigning? Did they get Pluie elected?"

"There was something with Chris LeDoux and llamas," Josh said slowly, "so I think it's entirely possible that they might have also elected Pluie to be the Senator from Montana."

He grinned. "They were good kids, though. Not nearly irritating as, say, members of Congress."

"I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone you don't like more than congress, Josh." she said, arching her eyebrow. "I know you too well. Hey, did you get a message from Sam?"

Josh ran a hand through his hair. "Not terribly recently, no. I've been giving him some time after the special election."

"Huh. I had a message on my phone, but it was garbled and when I tried to call him back the signal was non-existant. I'll have to try once I'm back in DC. How do you think he's doing? After that?"

"He knew he didn't really have a shot in hell of winning," Josh said. "So I'm sure he'll be fine. He just needs some time to, you know, wallow. Decide what else he wants to do."

She snorted, "You should tell him there's an opening for a speech teacher."

One more beat and she brayed out a laugh, covering her mouth as she leaned against her desk with the other hand.

"Care to share the joke?" Josh asked, eyebrows raised.

"Just Sam. Here. Of course...if he can handle Toby and his ball, he can probably handle anything. Like vampires. And glitter." she calmed gradually. "Plus you'd have each other and that would strike fear into the hearts of, um, some."

Josh's eyes sparkled. "Or water randomly falling from the ceiling. Or weetiny bunnies." He started laughing. "I'm not sure whether he'd run screaming back to California or refuse to ever leave Fandom again."

He gave her a very fake hurt look. "And we could totally scare people. Just not, um, anyone who's not a freshman, I'm guessing."

"Yeah, you two are kind of frightening when you get together. Just don't take him to the Fourth Sin. He doesn't need another prostitute friend."

Josh laughed. "Yeah, that would be bad. Especially since one of them apparently looks like a student here, which just leads to all kinds of badness."

He gestured vaguely out the door. "I should probably grade things and, um, stuff, before you decide that I need to help you move boxes or something."

"Move boxes? Great idea." she grinned. "Actually, I was going to ask if you wanted to drop by tomorrow night and take a few bottles of wine so I don't have to drink or move them."

"I can do that," Josh said. He gave her a small smile. "As long as you don't tell Donna. She thinks I can't hold my licquor."
