Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday, June 28, 2023

When the poor schmucks Fandom arrived in the park on Wednesday, they would see five wooden rafts, big enough to each hold four people (or Muppets, or a Sidon), bobbing on the pond. In the center of each raft was a metal bucket full of objects. Some were balloon-shaped, some were ball-shaped, others were clearly shoes. One looked suspiciously like Intern Porg.

(Do not throw Intern Porg.)

"In honor of break week, we are doing something that didn't require much effort on my part to set up," Anakin said, which was pretty straight-forward of him. "We're doing a balloon-ish toss! Pick an object, toss it to your teammate on the next raft over. Do not miss, or break the object! Fastest team to get all the way around the circuit wins."

He grinned. "Powers may be used today. And there are plenty of objects in the buckets. No one says you have to only toss things at your own teammates."

Sometimes Anakin just liked to watch the world burn.

"Listen for your names!"

On an island where British-adjacent accents were used in all sorts of universes, not really, but Steve could make a few jumps here. "We're not missing anything not being your colony any more," he retorted, rolling his eyes. "The Fourth's one day of celebration in a country you're living in. Are you this dismissive of India's Independence Day or the other 62 colonies who've declared independence from the glorious empire? You've done a lot of losing after the first colony kicked you in the teeth."

The 'good riddance' had hit a major nerve for a Navy lifer with three-generation family history of military service.

Steve shrugged, calming himself down. "It's just a shirt. I think I have one with George Washington with six-pack abs riding an eagle back at the apartment. The Navy SEALs I work with love it."

Jon blinked, taken aback by the vehemence. "N-not at all! I...I applaud all of your, um, independences. I have no interest in...in perpetuating Imperial idiocy. I'm sorry if it sounded that way. I just...um. It's not exactly...well, it's not my holiday," he ended awkwardly.

"But you're in our country," Steve said, "so maybe try to enjoy the fun of the day instead of whatever 'good riddance' is. Washington, DC, puts on a hell of a fireworks show and it's not that far away. So does Annapolis, for that matter, right on the harbor."
