Very Safe Science, Tuesday, May 23

Dr. Honeydew had learned nothing from Travis' chat with him last week because Beaker was in the front of the lab today with a giant box labeled "DELICIOUS SNACKS (VERY SAFE) (NON-FLAMMABLE)."

"Meep meep meep meep meep!" Beaker said grandly, opening up the box and pulling out a giant glass container of paperclips.

"Meep meep meep mee?" Beaker muttered, tossing packing peanuts around as he found a piece of paper with, presumably, an explanation.

"Meep mee mee meep--"

Too bad you won't understand it.

"--meep meep," Beaker concluded after reading the letter aloud, then opened the glass container and put a handful of paperclips into his mouth. "Meep!" he said, sounding surprised and happy. He went back for more. "Meep meep meep me!"

Delicious edible paperclips! Who wouldn't want such a thing?

He hopped down from his stool with the paperclips, ready to hand them to everyone--because you all wanted to eat paperclips, too, right?--when his nose fell off.

"MEEP!"

He picked it up off the floor. "MEEP MEEP MEEP MEEP MEEP!!!"

Today's new lesson: nose glue! Let's make some! Right now, even!

From poetry in the park to...this. Tuesdays definitely were giving Eleanor a good dose of just how much variety this school had, that was for sure, and she was sort of contemplating on how she probably could eat paperclips and be perfectly fine, all things considered, when the whole...nose thing happened.

And then wondered if it was terrible of her to think that the paperclips could maybe be used to attach the nose? She might have to defer to the more knowledgeable people in the class on this one.

Beta just... buried her face in her hands and tried to will away the headache she was sure was impending.

"Put that back on your face right now!" Sam snapped.

“I . . . do not know the first aid for that.”

In case anyone was wondering.

"I don't even think that exists," added Beta, one hand still tangled up in her hair. The other was moving in the air in front of her in rapid back and forth motions as she manipulated a touch based computer interface only she could see, combing every database she could think of.

“Maybe it’ll . . . grow back?” Travis suggested.

"Ordinarily I'd say it's impossible for felt to do that but who knows?" Beta let out a slightly hysterical little laugh. "I'm not finding any --"

She yelped and pulled her hand back from the invisible screen.

"Did that website catch on fire?"

“It’s Beaker,” Travis said, resigned. “Probably.”

"I could probably genetically alter him to grow a new one," Miguel offered.

What? It was Beaker! Growing an extra nose would probably be anticlimactic.

“Maybe . . . wait and see if he does it on his own first.”
