The Floor Is Lava, Thursday - Period 1

The class had been told to meet in the Danger Shop, which was set up to look like a suitably foreboding landscape, with a large chasm filled with variously sized rocky platforms, separated by variously sized gaps, with a viscous fluid down below, glowing yellow and orange. At least one of your teachers was looking pretty pleased with herself.

Make that both teachers, really. Jane was bouncing on her toes in excitement to see how this went.

"It's not really lava, don't worry," Jane said before the class could even take it all in. "It's jello."

Which was only moderately better. Especially because someone had found the setting to make it real jello. You're welcome.

"But welcome to class! The object is very simple... don't fall in."

"The last person standing wins," Cara added. "Anything short of actually harming one another goes."

"Oh! And let's try it without powers this time?" Jane suggested. Helpfully.

"We'll supervise, to...keep it fair." And not because Cara had popcorn stashed away or anything like that.

"Alright!" Graham announced, clappinv his hands together, then rubbing them together. Maybe giving his bottom a little anticipatory shake as he bolstered himself in preparation. "Let's do this! Otherside, here I come!"

With that, he lifted a leg, hopped onto the closest obstacle, missed it by a good few inches, and immediately went into the lava.

"Curses!" he cried out, clutching his chest dramatically with one hand and reaching out with his other as he sunk to his jello-y death. "This isn't over! Wait until we heat again!"

And then, limps splayed out and with one big death groan, he lay still among the lava.

After adjusting his cap to make sure it had stayed on.

Charlie laughed delightedly at his dramatic death scene, then jumped into character.

"Oh no!" she cried, one hand to her forehead. "Not my prince! I will mourn you forever! And get to the other side in your honor!" She wouldn't, but she didn't know that yet.

Were there advantages to being built like a stick? Maybe. Maybe not. The point was, who knew how Steph managed to hold out as long as she did? Because Steph sure didn't.

"Just stick with me," Vi said confidently.

This mightn't have looked anything like back home, but treacherous jumps where uncertain footing could spell doom? Vi had this.

No wings made this trickier, but Gray was doing well...for a little bit, at least, until he yawned and then unceremoniously fell over, into the 'lava,' sound asleep...and possibly slowly sinking?

Anakin had spent the better part of several decades (well, better as in "most of" not as in "yay this was fun") hopping from thing to thing that was on fire and having known this wasn't actually lave made it easier to concentrate.

And he almost made it, which he would have taken more gracefully if Stark hadn't been the one to beat him.

Stark was thrilled to have gotten past Anakin.

Unfortunately Stark turned his head a little too far to appreciate the view of Anakin in the lava and lost his footing just shy of the end.

At least he'd gotten farther than Anakin. That was what was important here. Always.

"Well, we won't go that way," Steve said, pointing to Graham, jumping to another spot and hitting a batch of goo and sliding right off into the jello.

"No one tell Tony!" cried he.

This was a little like the tough mudders Chin kept telling him about and entirely more fun than BUD/s, but Steve was still taking it entirely too seriously. He got stuck clinging to the astronaut suit for far longer than he liked, misjudged the jump to the meteor and barked his shin in a way that he'd feel for probably a week.

He finally jumped onto the telescope which--rudely--dumped him into the lava.

Guillermo was actually really enjoying himself with this and he was rather pleased with how far he did end up making it before he fell off.

Belle watched a few others sliding into the lava and was moving very carefully. Until she saw Gray sinking into the lava while asleep and stopped short and...promptly slid directly into the lava herself.

At least she was awake?
