"Welcome, everybody!" Lana greeted them at Portalocity. She was out of her usual Earth clothes and back into her more usual grey and green armor. "I hope you all got my email this weekend, but if not, you should be fine. Please keep an eye out in future for my mail; I'll be letting you know in general the type of climate and area we'll be going to, so you can dress appropriately.

"Today, though, we're going to Odessen. It's my home these days, when I'm not in Fandom, and its climate is fairly similar to here at the moment. The people there are the heart of the Eternal Alliance - we banded together from disparate groups to defeat a despotic ruler, and some of us decided we preferred that to war and stayed together. We'll be touring the base today; I'll introduce you to a few groups, and you can spend some time there, and provided Portalocity is as good as they say, we'll return about when we left."

Their portal came up and she waved them at it. They came out on a platform above the forest jutting out from a building built into the side of a mountain. Some of the people moving around them gave them a second glance; some nodded at Lana, some nodded at guests they recognized from previous visits. Most of the others ignored them.

Lana nodded to them to turn around and take in the view. "Welcome to Odessen. You can opt for a few things here; you can visit the Force Enclave and speak with other Force sensitives; you can visit with the military; you can talk to our requisitions department - which is to say, smugglers; you can speak with our scientists; you can meet with our administrative staff; or you can visit the agricultural section. I'll introduce you to each of them first. Please be polite, but beyond that, you'll find the people here either reasonable, or surrounded by people that will encourage them to be so." Forcibly, if necessary.

"Whenever you like," Lana said, curious.

"Picked this up for you when I was back home," Steven said. He rummaged in his satchel and then pulled out a mug. On it was a picture of people waiting in line. He held it out to her. "There you are! You said get you something very British. It's a mug you can use for tea that has people on it in a queue. Can't get more British than that."

Well not without colonialism anyway.

Lana laughed as she took it from him, grinning as she looked it over. "Are there a lot of queues in Britain, then?"

"We're known for being quite good in a queue," Steven said. "Having them waiting for them, you name it."

"A useful skill," Lana said, still smiling. "Thank you; I'll think of you when I use it. Did you have a good trip?"

"It was nice, yeah," Steven said. "Got Llewellyn set up with a few things back home. Had some relaxing days. Better than what happened here, I heard. You all right after all that?"

"I missed most of it, actually," Lana answered. "But things seem to be back to normal for everyone, a bit of property damage notwithstanding."

"The poor diner," Steven said. "Llewellyn and Marc are out a lunch spot now."

"I'm sure they'll have it back up and running soon," Lana said. "Fandom is good about that."

"Fingers crossed," Steven said, doing just that. "For those who work there as well. Oh - on the topic of food, anything I should keep in mind if I try to eat anything? Do they understand what 'vegan' is here? Or I suppose at any other place we visit for these trips?"

Lana nodded. "They won't understand the word, but they will honour the concept. Just specify you'd like human-safe food that has no animal products. We've enough species and cultures here that you'll be fine. Other places may be hit-or-miss, but I'll let you know."

"Human safe, no animal products, got it," Steven said. "Cheers. Looking forward to getting to experience as much as I can while we're here."

Sure it wasn't the same as days at a time, but that was all the more reason to try to do as much as he could, Steven figured.

"This is the one place you'll always be welcome," Lana said. "Some of the others we'll be going to, I might not recommend without a guide, but here you're safe."

Unless they got attacked again, but these days most people knew better.
